How many traders and merchants does each player start with in their personal supply?
The rulebook's setup text states the split directly, and forum replies repeat it.

The start player takes 5 traders and 1 merchant into their personal supply, leaving 6 traders in the stock. Each player after them in clockwise order adds one more trader, so the second player starts with 6 traders, the third with 7, and so on. Two players use the same 5-and-6 split.
