Where can a displaced player place the displaced piece and the extra pieces?

On empty spaces of routes adjacent to the route they were displaced from (routes touching either city at its ends). They may split the pieces across several adjacent routes. Only if every adjacent space is full may they go one route further out, and the displaced piece may never return to the route it came from.
