Must the displaced player place the extra pieces from stock, or only the displaced piece?
The rulebook says the displaced player may decline the extra pieces but must re-place the displaced one.

The displaced piece itself must be put back on the board. According to the rulebook the extra pieces from the stock may be declined, though that costs you material. A few older forum posts describe all the pieces as having to be placed, but the rulebook's wording is the clearer reference.
