Does the game end if the bonus marker stock runs out, and what about the marker I just took?
The publisher explained this in 2009, and it matches the rulebook's end condition.

Yes. If you take a marker from the board and none remains to refill your tin plate, the game ends after that route-claiming action. You cannot use the marker you just took (or any marker afterwards), though it still scores at the end.
