1 Diamond
60 game cards:
- 18 Diamond Cards
- 18 Thief Cards
- 18 Fingerprints Cards
- 3 Dark room Cards
- 3 Policemen Cards
Game Object
Stop the thieves from stealing the diamonds and get rid of all your cards.
Game Set-up
The diamond is placed in the middle of the table. The deck is shuffled and the cards are dealt face down, evenly among the players. Players hold their deck of cards face down and the game starts.
Game Play
All players, simultaneously, flip up their top card and place it face up on the table.
They continue flipping up their top cards simultaneously, and placing each new card alongside their face-up cards so that all cards remain visible. They continue to do so until a player spots a theft incident.
Theft Incident
A theft incident occurs when the face-up cards include all of the following: a diamond, a thief and fingerprints, the combination of which meets the following criteria:
(Illustration: a thief card, plus a diamond card, plus a fingerprints card.)
Valid combinations
- Same colors & same quantities.
- Same color & differet [sic] quantities.
- Different colors & same quantity.
- Different colors & different quantities.
Examples of false alarm where no theft occurs
- Not all three elements are present.
- Colors don't follow theft rules.
- Quantities don't follow theft rules.
Game Play during Theft Incident
A player who identifies a theft incident immediately grabs the diamond and points out the combination of 3 cards that indicate the incident.
If they are identified correctly, all face-up cards are divided evenly among the other players who add them to the bottom of their deck.
If a player grabs the diamond but cannot point out a valid combination of cards, they collect all face-up cards from all players and add them to the bottom of their deck.
Special Cards
These cards affect the game as long as they are visible.
Lights out !!!
When lights are out, colors no longer count, and a theft can occur with any color combination.
Police !!!
When a policeman and thief of the same color appear on the table, the first player to grab the diamond divides their face-up cards among the other players, who add them to the bottom of their deck.
- Note: If a Lights Out card is visible, players may grab the diamond whenever a thief and a policeman are on the table, regardless of their color.
The End of the Game
The game ends when a player has no more cards in their hand or on the table. This player is declared the winner!
In the rare event that two or more players get rid of all their cards at the same time (such as when another player makes an error and 'cleans' the table of all face-up cards), then these players are all declared winners.
Quick Game
The quick version rules allow young and new players to play a shorter game.
In this version, cards received from opponents during the game are set aside by the players and not added to their deck. The game ends when all cards have been played. The winner is the player with the least number of cards set aside.
