Aim of the Game
The aim of the game is to be the player with the most points at the end of the game. Points are only totalled once the last tile has been laid and the game is over. Each player must choose a different Guild to play, each scoring points in a different way.
Set Up
Each player chooses a Guild to play and takes their respective Guild Guide card, Guild Meeples (Geeples) and Guild Tokens listed on their card.
For a 2-3 player game, each player receives 3 Dragora Coins; 4-5 player game it's 2 Dragora; and for a 6 player game, it's 1 Dragora.
Place the starting tile (featuring the golden gigantic statue of Ferrus the Blacksmith) face up in the centre of the playing area. Shuffle the remaining tiles and place 5 face up on the playing area and the remainder face down in one stack.
Players decide who goes first.
Choose a Guild:
- Road Toll Collectors
- Merchants
- Wizards
- Gardeners
- Druids
- City Watch
Taking a Turn
Players take turns clockwise. During your turn you must complete a tile action and you may complete a special action, in any order. Your available actions are listed on your Guild Guide card, as well as an example scoring diagram on the back. Pay special attention to them, as they will be different from every other Guilds' guide.
Summary:
In any order:
- MUST complete a Tile Action
- MAY complete a Special Action
Tile Actions
The two common tile actions are laying a tile and rotating a tile.
Laying a tile means taking a tile, either from the 5 face up draw tiles or from the top of the face down stack, and placing it down so that at least one edge is completely flush with the edge of a tile that has already been played. When a face up tile is drawn and played, it is immediately replenished with another tile from the face down stack.
Rotating a tile means picking up an existing tile and replacing it in the same place but facing a different way. You may only rotate tiles that are at the edge of the city (meaning that they have at least one edge that is not touching another tile). You cannot rotate any tile that has another player's geeple or token on it.
Special Actions
The two most common special actions are placing a geeple and moving a geeple. Placing a geeple is the first time one of your geeples is played. Place in the centre of any unoccupied tile. Moving a geeple is taking a geeple and moving from its current tile to another unoccupied tile. A geeple can only be moved between tiles that have a continuous road linking them. To move over a gap in the road, a geeple must use one special action to move to the centre of the tile and then may continue from that tile along the new road with a subsequent special action in a subsequent turn.
Patterned Roads
The tiles have four Road Patterns and the City Mayor likes his city to be pleasing to the eye. If a player LAYS (rotating tiles does not count) a tile which completes one or more NEW UNBROKEN ROUTES across exactly 3 tiles with the same road pattern, they gain 1 Dragora Gold Coin. A route can be any connecting consecutive tiles with the same UNBROKEN pattern.
Dragora Gold Coins
Each player starts the game with a number of Dragora Gold Coins. In a 2-3 player game it's 3, in a 4-5 player game it's 2 and for 6 players it's just 1.
Once during your turn you may discard 1 Dragora to play another tile action or to play a special action.
Any unspent Dragora Gold Coins at the end of the game score points. 1G = 1 point, 2G = 3 points, 3G = 5 points, 4G = 7, with any Dragora Gold over 4 worth 1 point per Gold.
Note: each Guild's specific scoring conditions and special abilities are printed on its own Guild Guide card and are not reproduced here.
End of the Game
The game finishes at the end of the turn when the last unused tile is picked up and played. Players then count their scores. Each guild scores points in different ways which are listed on their guild cards.
Any unspent Dragora Gold Coins at the end of the game score points. 1G = 1 point, 2G = 3 points, 3G = 5 points, 4G = 7, with any Dragora Gold over 4 worth 1 point per Gold.
