Game Material

  • 1 Grill board
  • 5 card sets in the 5 player colours
  • 5 paper plates
  • 24 Grillables (6 each of Fish, Steak, Sausage and Corn)

Setup

  1. Place the grill board in the middle of the table with 1 of each Grillable on it.
  2. Each player receives a player plate and the matching set of condition cards (whose coloured back matches their plate), as well as 1 of each Grillable as a stock. Additional plates, Grillables and card sets are not used and are returned to the box.
  3. Players shuffle their decks of cards and put them in a face-down pile. They turn the top card of their pile face up next to it and then draw 4 condition cards as their starting hand.
  4. Select the person who has most recently grilled food as the start player (or choose the start player however you wish). Play begins with them and proceeds around the table.

Game Play

Each player's turn consists of the following steps (described in more detail below):

  1. Move the Grillable from your plate into your stock. (Not on the first turn.)
  2. Exchange a Grillable.
  3. Play 1 or more condition cards from your hand.
  4. Draw new cards from your face-down deck until you have 4 cards in your hand.

1. Move the Grillable from your plate

After an exchange, the newly acquired Grillable sits on your plate and cannot be taken by another player until your next turn. Put the Grillable from your plate back into your stock.

2. Exchange a Grillable

Players may take either 1 Grillable from the centre grill or from another player.

  • Take from the grill: The player takes one of the Grillables from the centre grill and places it on their plate, and then returns one of the Grillables from their stock back onto the grill.
  • Or take from another player: The player takes one of the Grillables from another player's stock (not their plate!) and places it on their own plate. They must then give one of their own Grillables to the other player.

After each exchange, each player and the centre grill will have exactly 4 Grillables. In principle, a player can exchange like-for-like, e.g. take a Fish and return a Fish.

3. Play condition cards

The player may play cards that match the conditions of the central grill. 1-4 cards from hand can be played in any order and placed face up in a score pile in front of the player.

Condition types:

  • More X than Y: The card can be played when there are more of Grillable X than Grillable Y on the central grill. There must be at least 1 of Grillable X, but there may be zero Ys.
  • No X: The card may be played when there are no Xs on the grill.
  • Most X: The card may be played when there are more of Grillable X on the centre grill than of each of the other three Grillables.

Note: Players may not play a card that exactly matches the last card played by any other player (e.g. any card which matches the top face-up card in another player's score pile).

Note: If a player chooses not to (or cannot) play any cards, they must turn the top card on their completed pile face down so that it no longer blocks other players.

4. Draw new cards

If any cards were played, the player draws from their face-down deck until they have 4 condition cards in their hand again.

Game End

The game ends when one player has played all of their cards (empty hand and deck). The first player to complete all their cards is known as the Supergrillmaster!

Variant

For a more tactical game, players are permitted, before drawing cards, to place cards from their hand at the bottom of their deck. This can influence the cards they will receive at the end of the game and allow them to create helpful combinations.
