Setup
Before the game, set aside the two large cards (the start & finish card and the turnaround card). Shuffle the remaining cards well and place them face down in a stack in the middle of the table.
The four event cards must be spread evenly through the stack so that they do not come up right after one another.
Place the turnaround card at the very bottom of the stack. Lay the start card face up on the table. Each player takes a car and places it on the start card.
Goal
Be the first to return along the track with the start and finish line.
Turn Rules
The youngest player begins. On each turn the player decides whether to:
- take a card from the stack and extend the track, or
- roll the die and move his car by that number of spots.
At the start of the game it is more useful to build the track.
Track Pieces
Each card represents one space. The cards are laid so that a continuous track is formed.
Exits may not be built.
If a player rolls more than the number of cards that are laid out, he cannot drive his car. He must stay where he is.
When the turnaround card is laid, the race turns back over this section until the first player reaches the finish. The finish does not have to be reached with the exact number rolled.
No more than two cars may stand on any card. Nobody can pass that card. If a third player rolls such that he would have to land on or move past that card, he must stop behind the two cars. Any excess points on the die are then lost.
Exception:
Drivers who are already on the return journey cannot be stopped by two oncoming cars. They may drive past them. In this case a card may be driven onto or over.
Event Cards
There are four special cards in the game. They are built into the track like the other cards, and they only have an effect when a car stops on them. What happens?
Accident
This card slows the race. Only one car may stand here. All cars following behind cannot overtake and must stay one card behind this accident. When the space with the accident is free again, driving may continue.
Pit stop
Changing tyres takes time. Whoever stops here must skip a turn.
Oil slick
Danger of slipping. So drive slowly! Whoever stops here must skip a turn.
Grandstand
Whoever arrives here is cheered on by his fans. The player may use a second time the number he rolled to move his car. If there are not yet enough cards laid, the car moves as far as possible (excess movement points are lost).
End of the Game
The game ends as soon as the first player drives over the finish line. He becomes the "Grand Prix" winner!
