1 lake 3 fishing rods with magnets

Items to be caught are:

  • 1 old boot (1 point)
  • 5 water creatures (2 points)
  • 5 fishes (3 points)
  • 2 fishes (4 points) (printed as "4 fishes"; corrected to match the point values of the German, French and other editions of this leaflet)
  • 2 fishes (5 points)

For 2 – 3 players.

Object of the Game

To succeed in the game, it is not necessarily the number of fish caught that counts – each fish, boot or starfish also carries a certain number of points. So besides angling skill, you also need a bit of luck to win the game. At the end of the game, the points of the water creatures caught are added together and the highest total score wins.

Preparation

First you must set up the lake on a table. Using the ribbons, tie the lake together where the end sections meet. Then it cannot fall over.

All 15 lake dwellers, the fishes and the octopus, the seahorse, the crab and boot, must now populate the lake. They are magnetic at the metal point, which is how they hold on to the fishing line.

You should not be able to see into the lake. Otherwise the game would be much too simple.

Rules

The first angler dangles his fishing line in the lake and tries to catch as valuable a fish as possible and land it carefully without the fish being able to get off the hook again. Only when the fish (or seahorse, boot, etc.) is lying safely on the table outside the lake can you add the points to your score. If you manage to catch and land something you can try your luck at fishing again straight away. But if the fish falls back into the lake it is then the turn of the next player to try to catch a fish.

And so you take it in turns until the lake is empty.

At the end of the game, each player adds up the points of his or her catch. The winner in the angling competition is the player with the most points. Unfortunately, you only score one point for catching the old boot – after all, it is fish you want to catch.

Variation

You can also agree at the beginning that, after every attempt, whether successful or not, it is then the turn of the next player. Because the lake dwellers score different points, you will still have a champion angler at the end of the game.

Good fishing!
