Goal of the Game

Try to guess what choice a player will make when faced with a damn dilemma! If you succeed, you earn points. Score as many points as you can for correct guesses and become the damn winner!

Setup

  1. Shuffle the cool cards and the nasty cards separately, and place them face down in stacks next to each other in the centre of the table.
  2. Keep score in a notes app on your phone. You can also record points on paper with a plain pencil, like not-so-bright cave people.
  3. The player dressed most brightly becomes the damn active player. This player takes the BUT card and places it on the table, getting ready to stand before the first dilemma.
  4. Let's play already! If this is your first time, read the damn rules first, okay?

Gameplay

I — Choice

Place the active player before a dilemma. To do this:

  1. The player to the left of the active player takes the top 3 cool cards from their stack, and the player to the right takes the top 3 nasty cards.
  2. The player with the cool cards chooses one card out of the three, reads the text on the chosen card aloud, and places it face up to the left of the BUT card. Then the player with the nasty cards also chooses one card out of the three, reads the text on it aloud, and places it face up to the right of the BUT card.

Example dilemma: the cool card reads "You can clone yourself as many times as you like." The BUT card sits in the middle. The nasty card reads "We transplant a foot onto your elbow."

Note: return the cool and nasty cards that the players did not choose to the box.

  1. Now the active player reads the whole dilemma aloud. Shortly afterwards they will have to agree to the stated conditions or refuse them. Before that, the players may discuss the chosen cool and nasty cards with each other.

II — Voting

The other players must guess whether the active player will agree to the conditions of the cool and nasty cards or not.

  1. Each player, including the active player, extends one hand in front of them, with the palm clenched into a fist and the thumb pointing to the side.

  2. On the count of "three", the active player must:

    • raise the thumb up if they agree with the dilemma, OR
    • lower the thumb down if they do not agree.

All other players vote in the same way at the same time as the active player, trying to guess their choice.

III — Scoring

Players count their points.

  1. All players who voted the same way as the active player each receive 1 point. Note: the active player does not receive points. Otherwise, that's some damn cheating!

For example: the active player does not agree with the dilemma. The players who voted the same way receive 1 point each.

  2. Return the cool and nasty cards used in the current round to the box.

  3. The turn passes to the player on the left, who now becomes the active player.

End of the Game

  • With 3–6 players, the game ends when each player has been the active player twice.
  • With 7–10 players, the game ends when each player has been the active player once.

The player who has scored the most points becomes the damn winner. In the event of a tie, all players with an equal number of points win.

Two-Player Rules

In the two-player game you play as a team. Your goal is to score as many points as possible over 7 dilemmas. In other words, to get 7 points. Piece of cake, you say? Well, we'll see.

I — Choice

A dilemma stands before the team.

  1. One player takes one cool card and one nasty card and places them to the left and right of the BUT card, respectively.
  2. SILENCE! No talking!

II — Voting

Both players try to guess whether the other player will agree to the conditions of the cool and nasty cards or not.

Both players extend one hand with the palm clenched into a fist and the thumb pointing to the side. On the count of "three", both players must vote:

  • raise the thumb up if they agree and/or think the other player will agree with the dilemma, OR
  • lower the thumb down if they do not agree and/or think the other player will not agree with the dilemma.

III — Scoring

The team receives 1 point if both players voted the same way. Brain power, whoosh! If the players voted differently, the team receives nothing.

Return the cool and nasty cards used in the current round to the box, and begin a new round.

After the seventh dilemma has been resolved, the game ends.

Players check their result: the closer it is to 7 points, the more the creators of the game love you!
