What's in the Box
97 cards: thirteen each of numbers 1 through 7.
There are also 6 player reference cards to help you through your first few rounds.
Setup
- Shuffle all the number cards and deal 6 cards to each player.
- Put the rest of the number cards in a face-down draw pile in the middle of the play area.
- Turn over 2 cards from the top of the draw pile and place them face-up next to it where all players can see and reach them. These cards are called the market.
The tallest player goes first.
How to Play
On your turn you do these three steps in order:
1. Bank Your Display (If Possible)
If you already have cards in front of you, scoop them up and move them to your bank pile, face down.
Banked cards are safe and score points at the end. For example, two 3s are worth 6 points, and three 7s are worth 21 points!
2. Play Cards
You must play from your hand a set of 1-3 cards of the same value. Put the cards face-up in front of you. This is called your display.
Example: Ben could play a single 1, 4 or 6, a pair of 1s or 4s, or a trio of 1s.
Example: Amelia could play either a single or a pair of any of the numbers in her hand. She can't play a trio right now.
Then check if your set beats anyone else's:
- You can only beat sets of the same size. Singles beat singles, pairs beat pairs, trios beat trios.
- You can only beat sets of the nearest higher value on the table.
- If multiple players have the nearest higher set, all of them are beaten.
- Beaten sets are discarded back in the box face-down, out of the game.
Example: Amelia plays a set of two 2s. They don't beat Ben's pair of 1s (too low) or Judith's single 4 (wrong group size). But they do beat Charlie's and Peter's pairs of 5s, the nearest higher pairs, so those are discarded. Stuart's pair of 6s stay safe, hidden behind the beaten 5s.
3. Draw New Cards
You must draw 2 cards and add them to your hand. Either:
- 2 cards from the top of the draw deck, or
- the 2 cards in the market.
If you do this, immediately replace them with 2 new cards from the draw pile. If there aren't enough cards in the draw deck or the market to draw 2, just draw as many as you can. You can have an unlimited number of cards in your hand.
After you draw cards, play passes to the player on your left.
Ending the Game
When the draw pile and market are empty, continue playing but skip the draw step. When someone plays their very last card, the game ends. Then:
- Discard any leftover cards in hand.
- Bank any cards still in your display.
- Add up the value of your banked cards.
- Highest total wins!
- Tie? The tied player with the most banked cards wins.
- Still tied? Share the victory. Each of you went big!
