New to rolling rolls? Our specially prepared lesson cards will help. Simply follow the instructions on the two "How to roll rolls?" cards and on the lesson cards. (See the "Lesson Cards" section.)
Gameplay
In each round you try to fulfil an order as quickly as possible.
- Take a number of point tokens one fewer than the number of players and place them face up in the centre of the table so that everyone can conveniently reach them.
- The first player rolls from 2 to 4 order dice of their choice. The more dice, the higher the difficulty. Each order die shows how the fillings must be arranged in the roll:
- Illustrated sheet fillings must (or must not) touch the seaweed sheet.
- Illustrated sheet fillings must (or must not) touch each other.
- Illustrated sheet and strip fillings must (or must not) touch each other.
- Illustrated strip fillings must (or must not) touch each other.
- The rolled order dice determine the order for this round. All players must fulfil the order by correctly placing the fillings in their roll.
- All fillings must be used.
- The seaweed sheet must always be on the outside of the roll.
- You may place a filling anywhere if its position is not specified.
- When you have finished placing the fillings, fasten the Velcro on the seaweed sheet to complete your roll.
- When your roll is ready, say "Done!" loudly and take the face-up token with the most points. If there are several such tokens, take the one showing the most radish slices. After you take a point token, you may not rebuild your roll.
- After all tokens are taken, the players check whether they fulfilled the order correctly. The player who took the token with the most points checks first, then the player with the next-highest token, and so on.
- If you made a mistake in the arrangement of fillings, return the token you just took to the centre of the table (face up).
- If you did everything correctly, you earn the right to the token with the most points. Compare your token with those lying in the centre of the table (with each one separately). If:
- Your token has more points: nothing happens. You already have the right token!
Players place won tokens face down next to themselves. Before starting the next round, return all face-up point tokens remaining on the table to the box. These tokens are removed from the game. The next round begins with the player to the left of the first player rolling the order dice.
Examples: a correct roll and an incorrect roll are shown in pictures.
End of the Game
The game ends when all point tokens have run out. Each player adds up the points on their tokens. The player with the most points wins! In case of a tie, the player with the most radish slices on their tokens wins. If the tie still remains, the players with equal scores share the victory.
Lesson Cards
Before fulfilling an order from the dice, you can practise making gimbap rolls using the lesson cards. Try to make your roll according to the conditions on the card.
Start with lesson 1. When you have finished rolling or need help, turn over the lesson card and check the solution.
There may be several answers (not only the one pictured on the card); your roll does not have to be exactly like the one on the card, as long as all the conditions are met.
Lesson 1 card text: Gimbap is a dish that can be prepared in many ways. You can add all kinds of ingredients to it: ham, tuna, bulgogi, fried shrimp, cheese - anything! Fillings are limited only by your imagination.
Chef Mode
Rolling rolls is too easy for you? Then try playing with the additional "Chef Mode" rule! At the end of fulfilling an order, one more step is added: carefully lift the finished roll vertically, holding it in one hand. The filling must not fall out!
