Chapter 16½ Card
The Chapter 16½ card, printed in French and Spanish in the photographs, reads as follows:
Chapter 16½: The Gifts of Galadriel
Characters: Frodo*, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Galadriel, Celeborn
The asterisk after Frodo's name is printed on the card; no footnote for it is legible in the photographs.
Threat: Threat (1 to 7)
Victory: Long (achieve the goals of all characters)
Follow the instructions of the Gifts of Galadriel event. You do not need to achieve Celeborn's goal.
Translation note: the card's "Menace" heading is rendered as "Threat" to match the base game's terminology.
The Gifts of Galadriel
The instruction card for this chapter reads as follows.
Place the gift cards face up next to the characters as indicated below. Their effects must be resolved before the next player plays.
| Character | Gift |
|---|---|
| Merry | Elven-cloak |
| Boromir | Belt of Gold |
| Legolas | Bow of the Galadhrim |
| Sam | Box of Earth |
| Gimli | Three Strands of Hair |
| Frodo | Light of Eärendil |
| Aragorn | Elfstone |
| Pippin | Lembas |
| Galadriel | None |
| Celeborn | None |
No player may exchange during setup of this chapter.
Translation note: the English gift list is legible in the English photograph; "Three Strands of Hair" is the least certain title, its last word being hard to read. The rest of this card is translated from the French and Spanish printed cards.
Gift Cards
Card names are the English titles from the English photographs where legible, otherwise translated from the French card names. Card subtitles (e.g. "Of a Dusky Grey") are flavour and are omitted.
Elven-cloak (Cape Elfique), G.03
When you must lead a trick, you may discard this card so that another player of your choice leads the trick instead.
Translation note: French "Quand vous devez ouvrir un pli, vous pouvez défausser cette carte pour qu'un autre joueur de votre choix ouvre le pli." Spanish "Si te toca salir, puedes descartar esta carta para elegir a otro jugador y que salga en tu lugar." Consistent.
Belt of Gold (Ceinture d'Or), G.04
Before you play a card, you may discard this card to reveal your lowest-value card of one suit to all players.
Translation note: French "Avant de jouer une carte, vous pouvez défausser cette carte pour révéler à tous les joueurs votre carte de la valeur la plus faible d'une couleur." Spanish "Antes de jugar una carta, puedes descartar esta carta para revelar tu carta más baja de 1 palo a todos los jugadores." Consistent.
Bow of the Galadhrim (Arc des Galadhrim), G.05
Discard this card when you play a Forest card to increase or decrease its value by 1 or 2. You win the trick in case of a tie. The modified card keeps its printed value for objectives.
Translation note: French "Défaussez cette carte en jouant une carte Forêt pour augmenter ou diminuer sa valeur de 1 ou 2. Vous remportez le pli en cas d'égalité. (La carte conserve sa valeur imprimée pour les objectifs.)" Spanish matches ("Ganas los empates").
Box of Earth (Boîte de Terre), G.06
Discard this card when you play a Hill card to increase or decrease its value by 1 or 2. You win the trick in case of a tie. The modified card keeps its printed value for objectives.
Translation note: French "Défaussez cette carte lorsque vous jouez une carte Colline pour augmenter ou diminuer sa valeur de 1 ou 2. Vous remportez le pli en cas d'égalité. (La carte conserve sa valeur imprimée pour les objectifs.)" Spanish matches.
Three Strands of Hair (Trois Cheveux d'Or), G.07
Discard this card when you play a Mountain card to increase or decrease its value by 1 or 2. You win the trick in case of a tie. The modified card keeps its printed value for objectives.
Translation note: French "Défaussez cette carte lorsque vous jouez une carte Montagne pour augmenter ou diminuer sa valeur de 1 ou 2. Vous remportez le pli en cas d'égalité. (La carte conserve sa valeur imprimée pour les objectifs.)" Spanish matches. The English title "Three Strands of Hair" is from the English gift list and is the least certain title (see above). The French name, "Trois Cheveux d'Or", translates literally as "Three Golden Hairs" / "Three Strands of Gold".
Light of Eärendil (Lumière d'Eärendil), G.08
Discard this card when you play a card into a trick in which Shadow is the lead suit, to win the trick.
Translation note: this text is legible in the English photograph and matches the French "Défaussez cette carte lorsque vous jouez une carte lors d'un pli ouvert à la couleur Ombre. Vous remportez le pli." The Spanish card reads "palo de triunfo sea Sombras" (trump suit is Shadows); the English and French both say lead suit, so the lead-suit reading is used here.
Elfstone (Broche Elfique), G.09
Discard this card once every card of a trick has been played, to discard all of them. The player who won the previous trick leads the next trick.
Translation note: French "Défaussez cette carte quand toutes les cartes d'un pli ont été jouées pour toutes les défausser. Le joueur qui a remporté le pli précédent ouvre le prochain pli." Spanish: "Descarta esta carta después de que se hayan jugado todas las cartas de una baza para descartar del juego todas las cartas de dicha baza. El ganador de la baza anterior sale en la siguiente baza." Consistent. The English title "Elfstone" is legible in the English photographs; the English body text is not.
Lembas, G.10
Before the lead player leads a trick, discard this card to exchange immediately with any other player.
Translation note: French "Avant que le joueur actif n'ouvre le pli, défaussez cette carte pour échanger immédiatement avec n'importe quel autre joueur." Spanish reads "Antes de que el jugador de salida juegue una carta en una baza, descarta esta carta para intercambiar de inmediato con cualquier personaje" (with any character). The French says "any other player"; the English photograph's body text is not legible enough to confirm which wording it uses. The French is followed here, and the difference is disclosed.
