Components

  • Word cards x243
  • Score Tokens x44 (5 Points x12, 1 Point x32)
  • Role Meeples x6 (Riddler x1, Disruptor x1, Solver x4)

Setup

  1. Shuffle all the word cards, and each player draws 10 cards. The remaining cards form a supply deck.
  2. Each player selects 1 card as the answer, 5 as hints, and discards 4.
  3. The smartest player becomes the Riddler and takes the Riddler Meeple.
  4. The player to the Riddler's left is the Disruptor and takes the Disruptor Meeple.
  5. All other players are Solvers and take the Solver Meeple.

Game Play

1. Preparation

Draw 15 cards from the supply deck and shuffle them with the Riddler's answer card. Place all 16 cards face-up in the public area, and give the 5 hint cards to the Disruptor.

2. The Disruptor Reveals the Hint

The Disruptor looks at the cards in the public area and the hints, then plays 1 hint face-up.

3. The Riddler Adjusts the Hint

The Riddler can reorder them based on their relevance to the answer, helping the Solver deduce the correct answer.

With only 1 hint, this step is skipped.

4. The Solvers Guess the Answer

In a 3/4/5/6-player game, each Solver has 3/2/1/1 guessing chances for each riddle.

The riddle is solved in a Quick Answer Race.

  • Got it right! The round ends immediately, and the Riddler and the Solver who correctly guesses the answer score 2 points, plus 1 point for each unused hint card. Other Solvers do not score.
  • Wrong! The Disruptor immediately gains 1 point.

For example, when 4 hint cards have been revealed and 1 unused hint card remains, a Solver finds the answer.

  • Riddler: 2 + 1 = 3 points.
  • Solver who guessed correctly: 2 + 1 = 3 points.
  • Other Solvers: No points.
  • Disruptor: During the round, the Solvers make a total of 2 incorrect guesses, so the Disruptor earns 2 points.

5. Next Hint

If all Solvers choose not to guess, the game returns to step 2, where the Disruptor plays the next hint, and the Riddler can reorder the hints again.

If all hints are revealed, Solvers can't pass; they must use all remaining guesses.

6. End of a Round

A round ends when a Solver guesses the answer correctly, or when all Solvers have used all their guessing chances.

All players pass their role meeples (Riddler, Disruptor, Solver) to the player on the left and start a new round.

Game End

The game ends after all players have been the Riddler once. The player with the highest score wins. If there is a tie, they share the victory.

Co-op Mode

The Disruptor role is not used in this mode.

When playing with 2 players, the game is played the same way, with one change in step 2 "The Disruptor Reveals the Hint": shuffle the hint cards and randomly reveal 1. The Solver has 3 guessing chances.

The game ends after both players have been Riddler and Solver twice. A total score above 15 wins the challenge!
