Setup
Each player chooses a small barbarian and puts the card in front of him. This card helps the players to remember their colour during the game.
The 25 dungeon cards form the game board are well shuffled and then placed on a table in a 5 by 5 grid. This square represents the dungeon. The 4 weapons cards are placed next to the dungeon.
Each player enters the dungeon along the corner of the game board closest to him. This is his entrance.
NOTE: With 2 players, both players' entrances must be on opposite sides to each other.
The youngest player starts and then the game continues clockwise.
Overview
Every small barbarian will explore the dungeon on their turn until he finds the princess of his colour and finds the key to set her free. He may continue to search the dungeon until he encounters a Monster that he can not beat with the weapon he has chosen. When this happens, he is GAME OVER and the little barbarian must respawn back at his entrance next turn.
Gameplay
At the beginning of his turn, the player will choose one of the four weapon cards and places it in front of him. Then he turns the first card at the entrance and depending on the card, the barbarian either continues his search or he GAME OVER!
Continue the Search
The player will continue to search further if the flipped card is:
- a Monster that he can beat with the weapon he wields this turn;
- a princess;
- a key;
- or a door.
If a door is found, the small barbarian may continue his search from any non flipped card in the dungeon.
When the player continues his search, he leaves his previous card face up and may choose another weapon. Then he turns a card over orthogonally (never diagonally) from the previous card. If this new card does not cause a GAME OVER, the player continues his search as described above.
GAME OVER
It is GAME OVER if the flipped card is:
- a Monster that cannot be beat with the current weapon.
- An invincible Monster.
In the latter case, the player exchanges the invincible Monster with another still unrevealed card in the dungeon. However, the Monster must not be placed at another player's entrance.
With a GAME OVER, the player turns all flipped cards over again and places the weapon back next to the board. His turn is over. On the next turn, the player returns to his entrance. It is now up to the next player to search the dungeon with the information that the previous player has already revealed, at least if he has remembered these cards correctly...
Note: If a player no longer has the ability to turn cards because all adjacent cards are already flipped over, it is also GAME OVER.
End of the Game
If a player succeeds in flipping both the key and the princess of his colour in the same turn, he immediately wins the game.
