Gambler card anatomy: top left is the winning number, bottom left is the income amount of the current side and of the other side, bottom right is the cost.
Setup
- Group gambler cards by value, normal side up.
- Lay out the -1, 2 and 3 fate cards.
- Deal a 0 and a 1 fate card to each player. Other 0 and 1 cards are not used.
- Deal $3 to each player.
- Choose a start player. Beginning with the start player, each player takes two gamblers and places them in front of them. The combination must be 1+2, 1+3 or 2+3.
Playing a round
- The start player plays one fate card face up. Other players each play one fate card face down.
- The start player may place $1 on the +1 or -1 space on the start player card.
- All face-down fate cards are revealed. The sum is determined, taking into account any money on the start player card.
- Any gambler which matches this sum wins. Each winning gambler earns money for their owners.
- If no gambler wins, a Fumble happens.
- Check for end of game.
- From the start player onwards, each player may purchase a gambler, enter lucky mode, or do nothing.
- The start player card is passed to the left.
Purchasing a gambler
- You may purchase a gambler you already have.
- Newly purchased gamblers start in normal mode.
- If a newly purchased gambler has a GET power, take the indicated fate card if you do not already have one.
- If the gambler cost is 0, you may only purchase if you have no money.
- Gamblers 0, 4 and 8 do not grant rewards when they win. Instead they immediately enter lucky mode.
Entering lucky mode
- Flip one gambler from normal to lucky side.
- Once a lucky side gambler wins, it resets to normal.
- Gamblers 0, 4 and 8 can be flipped to the lucky side using this action.
Fumble
- The richest player(s) surrender half their money (rounded down) to the Fumble card.
- Money on the card is immediately distributed to all players evenly. Any leftover stays on the card.
End of game
- A player with Gambler 4 or 8 wins with them, OR
- the richest player with more than $20 wins. The tiebreaker is the player with fewer gamblers.
3 player game with NPC rules
- You may play the 3-player game using NPC rules.
- Create an NPC deck with all five values of fate cards.
- Every round, a card is revealed from the NPC deck before the start player plays their fate card.
- After the second last card from the NPC deck is revealed, reshuffle the NPC deck before the next round.
Other clarifications
- When a Fumble happens, any $1 on the start player card is not considered the start player's money. This may reduce the penalty amount if the start player is being penalised.
