Components

18 cards with letter/categories on one side and fruit on the other.

Setup

Shuffle all 18 cards together into a deck and place it face up (letters/categories visible) on the table.

The player whose first name occurs last alphabetically is the starting Judge. They establish the letter and category for the first round as follows:

  • Place the top card of the deck vertically, face-up where all players can see it showing the initial letter.
  • Place the second card horizontally, face-up on top of the first card displaying the four possible categories.
  • Flip the third card to reveal a fruit and place it vertically covering the letter on the second card determining the category. If a star fruit is revealed, the Judge chooses the category.

Illustration: the deck (letter S showing) and the play area. In the example, the letter is H and the category is "Character Trait".

Gameplay

The game is played over a series of 10 rounds. There are no turns.

The Judge announces the letter and category to begin the round.

All other players shout out their answers; a player may give multiple answers in a round.

The Judge points to the player who most recently gave a valid answer (see Valid Answer). When the Judge feels that players can offer no more answers, they begin a 5 second countdown. If a player gives a valid answer before the countdown ends, the round continues until a countdown is completed.

The Judge awards the letter card to the last player to give a valid answer in the round.

If ten rounds have been played, proceed to Winning the Game. Otherwise, the winner of the round becomes the Judge for the next round. They rotate the previous category card to show the new initial letter, flip the previous fruit card on top of the new letter card to display the four possible categories, and flip the top card of the deck revealing the fruit to determine the category. A new round begins.

Winning the Game

The player with the most earned letter cards at the end of 10 rounds wins.

If there is a tie, the player with the letter card which occurs last alphabetically is the winner.

Valid Answer

Any answer deemed acceptable by the Judge (this may include slang or "outside of the box" answers) is a valid answer. Players may not repeat, add a suffix, or give a plural version of an answer that was previously given in that round. Players may call for the Judge to start a countdown or challenge an answer, but the Judge's decision is final.
