- 48 number cards (6 cards each with values from 1 to 8)
- 8 junk cards (Abfallkarten)
- 4 Fröschis
Setup
Shuffle all the cards together. At the start of the game, deal each player 8 cards face down. Lay them out in a row in front of you. The remaining cards form the face-down draw pile. Next to the draw pile, the face-up discard pile will develop later.
(A diagram shows the setup for two players: each player's row, the draw pile and the discard pile.)
Gameplay
You play clockwise. The player who most recently saw a frog starts.
On your turn, you draw the top card of the draw pile or the top card of the discard pile and try to sort it face up into your row of cards. If that is not possible because a face-up card already lies at the matching position, place the drawn card on the face-up discard pile and your turn ends. If you draw a junk card, your turn also ends. You can sort Fröschis in at any position, so they always fit.
The Cards
In Fröschis there are three different kinds of cards:
Number cards: Each number card shows a value from 1 to 8. You try to sort these number cards into your row of cards in the correct order.
Fröschis: Fröschis are jokers. They can take on any value from 1 to 8. In addition, they can hop around in your row of cards and so help you multiple times.
Junk cards: If you draw a junk card, your turn ends immediately. Junk cards never go into your row of cards and always end up on the discard pile.
Sorting a Card In
You always place a card at the position of your row that matches the number on the card. A 1 belongs at the first position of the row, on the far left, a 2 at the second position, etc.
If a face-down card lies at the matching position, you swap the drawn card with the face-down card. Place the drawn card face up in your row of cards. Then look at the card you just took out of your row. Now try to sort this card into your row as well. You keep doing this until a face-up card already lies at the position where you want to sort in a card, or you reveal a junk card. Instead, place the card you are holding on the discard pile and end your turn.
Example: Anna-Lena draws a 7 from the draw pile. She can sort the 7 into the matching position of her row. She swaps the 7 with the face-down card lying there. Anna-Lena turns this card over; unfortunately it is a junk card. This ends her turn. She places the junk card on the discard pile.
Example: On her next turn Anna-Lena has more luck. She draws a 1 from the draw pile and sorts it into her row. There she reveals a 3, which she can also sort in. Then she reveals a 7. A 7 already lies in her row, so her turn unfortunately ends. She places the 7 on the discard pile.
The Fröschis
When you sort a Froschi into your row of cards, you can freely choose the position. If later in the round you find a card that you can sort in at the position of the Froschi, you may do so. You then again get to choose anew where to place the Froschi in your row of cards instead.
Example: Anna-Lena draws a 2 from the draw pile. At that position lies a Froschi. She may sort the 2 into her row in place of the Froschi. For the Froschi she may look for a new place in her row. She puts the Froschi at the position for the 4 and thereby has a completely sorted row of cards.
End of a Round
If a player manages to sort their entire row of cards with the numbers from 1 to 8 or Fröschis, all the others have one last turn. After that, reveal all cards. With a bit of luck you can also have a sorted row of cards even if not all of your own cards were revealed yet.
All players who now have a completely sorted row of cards in front of them shorten their row of cards by one card in the next round.
Next Round
Shuffle all the cards and give each player the correct number of cards. The player who ended the last round with a completely sorted row of cards starts the new round.
Attention: Some of you now have a shorter row of cards. If you draw cards that no longer fit into your row of cards because their values are too high, they count as junk cards. Every row of cards always begins with a 1.
Example: Anna-Lena managed to completely sort her row of cards in the first round. Therefore she may shorten her row of cards by one card for the next round. In the second round she only has to sort 7 cards. Thus all cards with an 8 now count as junk cards for her.
End of the Game
If one of you has only one card as a row of cards and manages to sort it, the game ends. For this, either a 1 or a Froschi is needed. Whoever achieved this wins the game. If several of you manage it in the same round, those players win together.
