Components

  • Cake Cards × 10
  • Ingredient Cards × 70 (Strawberry, Blueberry, Kiwi, Mango, Chocolate; 14 of each)
  • Animal Friend Cards × 7

Each Cake card shows its required ingredients (the small icons with numbers) and the ingredient type of the cake. Each Animal Friend card shows a scoring condition (its hidden objective).

Setup

  1. Shuffle the cake cards and make a face-down deck.
  2. Shuffle the ingredient cards and make a face-down deck.
  3. Take 3 cards from the Cake deck and place them face-up onto the table.
  4. Take 5 cards from the Ingredient deck and place them face-up the table.
  5. Deal 2 cards from the Ingredient deck to each player. (Keep ingredient cards in your hand, secret from other players.)
  6. Deal each player a random animal friend card face-down. Without looking at them, return the unused animals back to the box.
  7. The player who most recently ate cake (cake specifically), takes the first turn.

Example: setup for a 3-player game. The example shows Player A, Player B and Player C, each with a face-down animal friend card and a hand of ingredient cards, with 3 cake cards and 5 ingredient cards face-up on the table in the middle.

Gameplay

On your turn, choose one of two actions. After you perform your action, your turn ends. Play passes to the next player clockwise.

  • Collect Ingredients
  • Bake a Cake

Collect Ingredients Action

  1. Select 1 face-up ingredient from the table. Add it to your hand.
  2. If the table has 4 or more ingredients of the same type, you may choose 2 ingredients of that type, instead. Add them to your hand.
  3. After collecting ingredients, add cards from the Ingredients deck face-up to the table until it has 5 face-up ingredients. (If the deck is empty, do not shuffle the ingredient discard pile to form a new deck. Skip ingredient replacement and continue play).

In this example, a player can take either 2 Blueberries or the 1 Mango. Don't let the table fill too much with a single ingredient!

Bake a Cake Action

  1. Choose Your Cake: Choose a face-up cake on the table. Push the cake upward to indicate that you have chosen it.
  2. Ask for Help: You may choose to ask for help from up to 2 other players.
    • Ask a player, "Do you have (Ingredient Name)?"
    • If that player has any of the named ingredient, they may answer YES. If they do, they play any number of cards with the named ingredient type from their hand (but not more than a cake's remaining requirements). These cards contribute toward the ingredient requirement of the chosen cake. A player that answered YES can be asked again for ingredients. You can continue to ask until they say NO.
    • If the asked player does not have any of the named ingredient, or if they simply choose not to help, they answer NO. If a player answers NO, then you may not ask them for help again this turn.
  3. You may attempt to Bake the Cake: If you have ingredients in your hand to satisfy ALL the cake's remaining requirements, you may play those ingredients. Move the chosen cake from the table face-down under your animal friend card. If you do not play the ingredients required to finish the cake, you do not bake a cake. Return all played ingredients to their owners' hands.
  4. Clean Up: Add your played ingredients, if any, to the discard pile (your own played ingredients do not score). If other players contributed ingredients, they add those face-down underneath their animal friend card. If you baked a cake, add a replacement card from the Cake deck face-up to the table. The table should have 3 cakes face-up at the end of the turn. If you cannot replace the cake because the Cake deck is empy, the game ends immediately.

Editor's note: the source prints "empy" in step 4 of the Bake a Cake Action; it is transcribed as printed and is read as "empty".

End Game

The game ends at the end of a player's turn if either:

  • There are no face-up Ingredient cards on the table. (Do not consider ingredients in the discard pile).
  • The Cake deck is empty, and only 2 cake cards are left on the table.

Scoring

  • Your score is hidden during the game. Always store cards that you score face-down underneath your Animal card. Players may not ask about the contents of other player's score piles.
  • Scoring Ingredient Cards: Ingredient cards in your hand at the end of the game, do NOT score. Personally contributed ingredients from your hand to your own cake are NOT scored. If you want to score your ingredient cards, you need to help your Frenemies. Try to help just enough.
  • Determine your score: Highest total score wins and is also declared the cutest of the evening.
    • +5 VP for each Cake that you baked.
    • +1 VP for each Ingredient that you contributed to other players' cakes.
    • +3 VP If you complete your animal's hidden objective. (See next section.)

Animal Friend Hidden Objectives

Each Animal Friend card has a hidden objective. Your animal's objective is shown on the Animal Friend Hidden Objectives reference:

  • Shiba Inu: If you control the most of your favorite ingredient scored (ties do not count), you gain +3 points.
  • Cat: If you control the most of your favorite ingredient scored (ties do not count), you gain +3 points.
  • Rabbit: If you control the most of your favorite ingredient scored (ties do not count), you gain +3 points.
  • Capybara: If you control the most of your favorite ingredient scored (ties do not count), you gain +3 points.
  • Tanuki: If you control the most of your favorite ingredient scored (ties do not count), you gain +3 points.
  • Otter: If you have the most total ingredient cards scored (ties do not count), you gain +3 points.
  • Fox: If you have the least amount of cakes scored (ties do not count), you gain +3 points. Commonly, this scores when you have 0 cakes.

The reference card shows each of the five favorite-ingredient animals with its favorite ingredient icon (Shiba Inu: Kiwi, Cat: Blueberry, Rabbit: Strawberry, Capybara: Mango, Tanuki: Chocolate); the figure is a reference only.
