Components

18 Bird Cards made up of:

  • 3 Eagles
  • 4 Owls
  • 5 Hawks
  • 6 Crows

Each bird card shows a card type, a card value, the range of values for that card type, a scoring effect, and (on some cards) a scoring limitation icon.

Setup

Shuffle all 18 cards together.

Deal 3 cards face-down to each player. Players draw these to their hands. (Note: Your hand is considered your own personal "Sky".)

Place the remaining cards in a face-down Draw Deck in the center of the play area, leaving room for two 3-card Forests (one on each side) and a Discard Pile above.

The player that most recently saw a bird plays first.

Terminology

  • Sky: The cards in your hand.
  • Pair: 2 cards with the same value.
  • Triplet: 3 cards with the same value.
  • Straight: cards in sequential order (example: 4, 5, 6, 7).

Gameplay

Players take turns clockwise choosing one of the following actions each turn:

Draw and Place: Take 1 card from the top of the Draw Deck or the top of the Discard Pile and place it into your hand. Then select 1 card from the 4 cards in your hand to place face-up in an empty location in a Forest landscape. If both Forests are full, place the card face-up on top of the Discard Pile.

Swap: Swap 1 card from your hand with 1 unlocked card in a Forest.

Lock: Lock a Forest Card in a full Forest by rotating it 90 degrees to portrait orientation. It remains locked until the end of the game and cannot be picked up by any player.

End of Game

The game ends when 5 Forest Cards are locked.

Winning the Game

Each player gains points from the Scoring Effects on the three cards in their hand using 6 cards: their 3-card hand plus one of the 3-card Forests. NOTE: The scoring rules on the Forest Cards are not used.

Only one scoring rule marked with a talon (pairs, triplets) may be scored per player.

Only one scoring rule marked with a feather (straights) may be scored per player.

The player with the highest score wins. If tied, the tied player with the lowest card value in their hand wins. If they still tie, players share the victory.

Card Reference

Each card's value (bold) and its range of possible values are listed alongside its scoring effect. A scoring effect marked (talon) counts toward the one-per-player pairs/triplets limit; a scoring effect marked (feather) counts toward the one-per-player straights limit.

  • 3 — Score 6 points if you have a four card straight. (feather)
  • 4 — Score 5 points if none of your other cards have a lower value.
  • 5 — Score 10 points if you have exactly two types of birds.
  • 6 — Score the value of one of your other sky cards.
  • 7 — Score 12 points if you have two triplets. (talon)

Owls (range 5-8)

  • 5 — Score 8 points if you have all odd value cards.

  • 2 — Score 12 points if you have six crows.
