Aim of the Game
Make Smoothies and Fruit Salads to score as many PIPS (points) as possible. The highest score at the end of 8 turns wins!
How Do I Make a Smoothie?
To make a Smoothie, a player must match the fruit symbols on his Fruit Dice to a Smoothie Card in play. The PIP value is shown in the top corner of the card.
Example: On the first turn, a player has rolled an Apple, Lemon, two Oranges and a Rotten Tomato. He can make the Smoothie shown, so he takes the card to form his Smoothie score pile.
How Do I Make a Fruit Salad?
To make a Fruit Salad, a player must match multiples of the same fruit symbol on his Fruit Dice to any Fruit Salad Card. The PIP value is shown on the card.
Example: Using the same dice roll as before, a player could make a Fruit Salad of a pair of Oranges. He takes the x2 "Pair" Fruit Salad Card and places it in front of him with the "Oranges" side face up.
If a player has this card in front of him at the end of the game, it will add 2 PIPS to his final score.
Getting Started
- Shuffle the Smoothie Cards.
- Shuffle the Fruit Basket Cards.
- Deal 3 Smoothie Cards between the Smoothie deck and the Fruit Basket.
- The Fruit Salad cards are laid out as shown.
- The Turn Card is placed at the top of the gaming area and the Turn Marker is placed on the Turn Card at 1.
Play begins with the person who last ate a piece of yummy fruit! Mmmmm...
Smoothies
Smoothie Cards have a PIP value in the top corner which shows the number of PIPS each Smoothie is worth.
When a player makes a Smoothie by rolling the correct number of fruits, he simply takes the card and places it in front of him, face down, to form his Smoothie score pile.
At the end of the game, all the PIPS collected are totalled to see who is the winner.
Fruit Salads
Fruit Salad Cards work slightly differently to Smoothies. Once a player makes a Fruit Salad by rolling the correct number of fruits, he must take the matching Fruit Salad Card and place it in front of him, face up. It doesn't matter who currently controls the card - it can be taken from anywhere!
There are 6 Fruit Salad Cards:
- 2 of a kind (a pair)
- 3 of a kind
- 4 of a kind
- 5 of a kind
- Two Pairs (any)
- Full House (any pair AND any 3 of a kind)
The "of a kind" cards have 2 sides - a "normal" side and a "berry" side. These are explained on the next page.
The Two Pairs and Full House cards have only 1 side and can be scored with ANY combination of pairs and 3 of a kind.
Fruit Salads (cont.)
The "normal" side is for multiples of Oranges, Lemons, Bananas and Apples.
The "berry" side is for multiples of Strawberries, Raspberries and Blueberries. They are worth more PIPS than the "normal" side.
Example: A player has rolled a pair of Strawberries. He can make the x2 pair Fruit Salad Card - he flips it to the "berry" side and places it in front of him.
How to Play
Each player's turn has 2 phases: the Action Phase and the Score Phase.
Action Phase
Each player can perform up to 3 Actions per turn. Actions players can choose from are:
- Return up to 5 Fruit Dice - not including dice showing Rotten Tomatoes - to the Dice Cup and roll all dice in the cup.
- Return all Fruit Dice showing Rotten Tomatoes back to the Dice Cup and roll all dice in the cup.
- Draw a card from the Fruit Basket deck.
Players may perform these Actions multiple times in any order, but only a maximum of 3 per turn.
IMPORTANT: The first player MUST roll all the Fruit Dice as their first action.
Score Phase
After the player has finished their Action Phase, they can make ONE Smoothie or ONE Fruit Salad. The order of play is as follows:
- Play any Flippin' Fruit Cards (see page 9).
- Make a Smoothie OR Fruit Salad by taking the matching card. If the player makes a Smoothie, replace the card from the Smoothie deck.
- If the player makes a Smoothie OR Fruit Salad, place only the dice USED and Rotten Tomato Fruit Dice back in the Dice Cup. The unused dice stay in play for the next player.
- If the player did not make a Smoothie OR Fruit Salad, place ALL Fruit Dice back in the Dice Cup.
After the Score Phase, play passes to the next player clockwise.
After everyone has had their turn, the Turn Marker moves up one.
At the end of 8 turns each, the game is over.
Each player adds up the PIPS on their Smoothie Cards and any Fruit Salad Cards still in front of them.
The winner is the player with the most PIPS!
Example Turn
The player uses his first Action to roll all 5 Fruit Dice and gets the following result. He keeps an Apple and the Orange for this Smoothie Card, and since he can't reroll the Rotten Tomato, he uses his second Action to roll the other Apple and the Lemon, hoping for a Strawberry to complete the Smoothie Card shown.
Still no Strawberry! Finally, his third Action will be to roll the two Rotten Tomatoes. Yes! He rolled a Strawberry.
So, moving onto the Score Phase, he has 2 options:
- He could make the Smoothie and take the card for 3 PIPS at the end of the game.
- Or he could make a Fruit Salad with the Pair of Oranges, worth 2 PIPS at the end of the game.
Since the Smoothie is worth more PIPS, he chooses that. The Orange, Strawberry and Apple Fruit Dice are returned to the Dice Cup, leaving a Lemon and an Orange for the next player.
Turn Card
The Turn Card is used to count up the player turns. Each player only has 8 turns each in one game.
- Turns 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 are normal rounds.
- Turns 3 and 6 are Crazy Fruit rounds! During these turns, Rotten Tomatoes go WILD! This means if a player rolls ANY Rotten Tomatoes, they will count as ANY other fruit of their choice when they make a Smoothie or a Fruit Salad!
Example: A player has rolled 2 Rotten Tomatoes and 3 Oranges in a Crazy Fruits round. He can flip the Tomatoes to a pair of Oranges and make the x5 Five of a Kind Fruit Salad Card in the Score Phase. (See "How to Play" on the other side.)
Fruit Basket
The Fruit Basket deck consists of the Rotten, Juicy and Flippin' Fruit Cards.
Flippin' Fruit Cards
Flippin' Fruit Cards can be used at the start of the Score Phase to "flip" a single Fruit Die to show the fruit on the card. A player can NEVER flip a die that shows a Rotten Tomato.
Flippin' Fruit Cards either come as Single Fruit or Multi-Fruit. Single Fruit Cards show one Fruit choice, whereas Multi-Fruit Cards give the player an option of which fruit to flip a Fruit Die to.
Rotten Cards
Rotten Cards can be kept until the player wishes to use them.
Each card explains what it does, aimed at messing up your opponent's turn!
Card text (Out of Juice!): Play at the start of an opponent's turn to randomly discard one of their Fruit Basket cards.
Juicy Cards
Juicy Cards can be kept until the player wishes to use them, but can only be played during their turn.
Each card explains what it does, aimed at juicing up your turn!
Card text (Juiced Up!): Draw 2 cards from either deck in any combination. Play only at the start of your action phase.
Fruit Dice
There are 5 Fruit Dice in the game. Each die has the following fruit symbols:
- Orange x2
- Lemon x2
- Banana x2
- Apple x2
- Strawberry x1
- Raspberry x1
- Blueberry x1
- Rotten Tomato x1
The Berries and Rotten Tomato are more rare than the other fruits! This is why the "of a kind" Fruit Salad Cards have 2 different sides worth different PIP values.
Dice Cup
The game box doubles as a Dice Cup! Use this whenever the game refers to picking up and rolling the Fruit Dice.
Hand Size: 3 Cards
A player may only have a maximum of 3 Fruit Basket Cards in hand at any one time. If a player draws a fourth, they must discard one immediately.
