Set Up
Before you begin, you need to prepare a few things:
- Stick the dung labels, "horse apples" or "cow paddies," on both sides of the metal disks.
- Put 10 dung disks in any hollows on the gameboard.
- Distribute the path tiles on to the hollows in such a way that identical images are always as far away from each other as possible. Leave one empty hollow open. Florian Flugel starts on that spot.
- Shuffle the picture cards and place them as a facedown pile at the edge of the gameboard. Put the footstool next to it.
Game Materials
- 24 path tiles
- Footstool
- 12 picture cards
- Dung disks
- Florian Flugel figure
What's It All About?
Florian Flugel takes photos of animals and objects that fly through the air. The players collect his snapshots. To do so, they move his figure, trying to have him avoid stepping into the dung that is waiting along the way. If you get Florian to the next path tile of the just-uncovered picture card, you get this card. When all picture cards have been distributed, the player who has collected most of them wins.
Course Of The Game
In the beginning of the game, turn over the top picture card of the pile. Then you bring the footstool into the game:
Setting Up The Footstool
Whenever you turn over a new picture card, look for the next path tile showing this picture that lies ahead of Florian on the meadow path, and put the footstool there (illus. 2a).
However, if the path tile is only 1 to 3 spaces ahead of Florian, place the footstool on the other path tile with the same picture (illus. 2b).
The player who last stepped into dog poop starts. Then you take turns in clockwise order. If it is your turn, try to move Florian to the footstool space.
How Do You Move Florian?
You move Florian ahead clockwise along the meadow path; you decide whether you want to move him 1, 2 or 3 steps forward. Then, you jump with him into the middle of the chosen path tile, directly, without stopping in between.
Once there, there are two possibilities:
- It goes "Squish!" because you stepped into dung (illus. 3). Then your turn ends and you do what is described below in the Squish box.
- Nothing happens. You're in luck! Go on! You may continue your turn and move Florian again 1 to 3 steps further.
Squish Box
Lift Florian and remove the path tile and dung disk from his foot. Then put Florian back on the now-open space on which it went "Squish" (illus.3) (1).
Now take the path tile that stuck to Florian's foot and put it on the other hollow that is still open (2).
After that, look for a new hiding place for the dung disk. Turn over any other path tile, drop the dung disk into that hollow, and cover it again with the path tile (3). If, however, in doing so you uncover a hollow that is filled with dung, you keep the dung disk you wanted to place there and cover the hollow again immediately. Lay the disk in front of you.
Now it's the next player's turn, in clockwise order.
Reaching The Footstool Space
As soon as you—with Florian—have reached the space where the footstool is, you have two choices (A or B):
A) Put Florian on the footstool, take the picture card and lay it down in front of you. This ends your turn (illus. 4).
Hint: Of course you choose this option only if you are sure that there is a dung disk underneath the footstool space.
The next player performs one turn with Florian. Afterwards, he turns over another picture card and moves the footstool (as described on page 2).
B) Put the footstool aside and step with Florian directly onto the tile path.
Hint: Of course you choose this option only if you are sure there is no dung underneath the path tile.
Now the following can occur:
- It goes "Squish!" (find what to do now in the Squish box). Your turn is over and the next player moves the footstool to the next path tile with the identical picture.
- If it does not go "Squish!", take the picture card. After that, turn over another picture card and move the stool; then you may continue your turn.
Note: Florian can also enter the hollow without a path tile (and he must count it if he jumps over it).
End Of The Game
As soon as one of the players has picked up the last picture card, the game ends. For each dung disk that a player has lying in front of him, he must give up one of the picture cards he has collected. After that, the player who has the most picture cards wins. There can be more than one winner.
Game Variant
If the game is too difficult or too easy for you, in the beginning of the game you can put more or fewer dung disks in the hollows of the game board.
