Basic Gameplay
In Festi'vibes, players do the role of festivalgoers, using their Ticket cards to choose three festivals to attend from six possible options. The six Festival cards are laid out across the table, and players take turns playing their Event cards to build out each Festival column.
Every Event card features a music note with a positive or negative value, giving players points or taking them away. The winner of the game is the player who has the highest score when all six Festival columns are complete.
Game Contents
6 Festival cards. The Festival cards are laid out horizontally to create columns where players will place their Event and Ticket cards. Each Festival card has a number that indicates the maximum number of Event cards that can be played in that column.
26 Event cards. The Event cards represent positive or negative experiences that are familiar to all festivalgoers. The values of these cards will be added up at the end to obtain the total number of points players receive from each column. Certain Event cards also feature a special effect.
Positive Event cards:
- +1 — Free food
- +2 — Wellness workshop
- +3 — Immersive experience
- +4 — VIP access
Negative Event cards:
- -1 — Artist delayed
- -2 — High prices
- -3 — Crowd rush
- -4 — Storms
- -5 — Fake ticket
12 Ticket cards. Ticket cards allow players to "attend" their chosen festivals and earn the associated points.
8 Help cards.
Set Up
The six Festival cards used in setup show the values 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, and 5 — the maximum number of Event cards each column can hold.
- Carefully shuffle the Event cards.
- Players receive three Event cards each, which they keep in their hand.
- Place the rest of the Event cards in the middle of the table to make the draw pile.
- Each player chooses a color and receives three Ticket cards of that color, which are placed on the table.
- The last person to have gone to a real-life festival goes first! Players then take turns, going clockwise.
Two-Player Game
- A two-player game uses 5 Festival cards: one Festival 2 card; two Festival 3 cards; one Festival 4 card; and one Festival 5 card.
- At the start of the game, one Ticket card is placed on the Festival 2 card and on the Festival 3 cards. This setup thus blocks certain spaces. These Ticket cards are considered as opposing cards and can be moved using the special effects of certain Event cards.
When it's your turn, you can make one of the following two moves:
- Play one of the Event cards from your hand in one of the Festival columns
OR
- Play a Ticket card at the top of one of the Festival columns.
Your Turn
1 — Play an Event Card
- When it's your turn, you can choose an Event card from your hand and place it in any available Festival column.
- You must then take another from the draw pile, in order to always have three Event cards in your hand.
- The number shown on each Festival card indicates the maximum number of Event cards that can be placed in that column.
- Once a Festival column is full, no further Event cards can be played in that column, unless allowed by a special effect (see below). The Festival card is then flipped over, showing its "Sold out" side.
- When all Festival columns are complete, the game is over.
Illustrated example: The Ticket cards are played at the top of the Festival columns. In one column with a limit of two Event cards, there is one spot remaining — it can take up to two Event cards. In another column with a limit of two Event cards, both slots are filled — it is now full and cannot take any more cards.
2 — Play a Ticket Card
- During your turn, you can play one of your Ticket cards at the top of the Festival column of your choice.
- There can be no more than two Ticket cards per Festival column (no matter the color).
- You can't replace another player's Ticket card with your own, unless allowed by a special effect.
- By using the special effect of an event card, you can move one of your Ticket cards from one Festival column to another, assuming that there is space in the new column.
- You do not have to play all three of your Ticket cards. Once you have used them, however, they must remain in play.
A Ticket card placed at the top of a Festival column allows whoever played it to collect the total number of points from that column. The point total is obtained by adding and subtracting the music note values on the Festival cards. If two players each play one ticket at the top of the column, both receive the full amount of points. However, if a single player succeeds in placing two Ticket cards at the top of the same Festival column, that player's score is multiplied by two for that column.
Event Card Value and Special Effects
Event card value: Each Event card features a music note, which can have either a negative value (red) or a positive value (green), ranging from -5 to +5.
Event card special effects: Certain Event cards have special effects. These take effect as soon as the cards are played in a Festival column.
HEADS UP! The special effect of an Event card must be used as soon as the card is placed in a Festival column. It applies to all other cards in that column. If, however, the special effect can't be used, the card is simply played like any other Event card.
The special-effect Event cards, shown with two Ticket cards and a double arrow, or a Ticket card and a hand, trash can, or "+1", are:
- Swap (any column): Swap one Ticket card from this column, whether it is one of your own or from an opposing player, with a Ticket card taken from another Festival column, whether it belongs to you or not.
- Swap (your own ticket): Swap one of your Ticket cards from this column with another player's Ticket card from another column.
- Replace: Replace another player's Ticket card in this column with one of your own that has not yet been played. The removed Ticket card is placed in another open spot chosen by the other player. If it is their last card played, two points are taken from their final score.
- Swap Event cards between columns: Place this card in the column of your choice, then select another Event card from that column and swap it with one from a different column.
- Discard: Place this card in the column of your choice, then replace and discard the Event card of your choice from that column.
- Increase limit: This card increases the Event card limit by one in whichever column it is used, for as long as it stays there.
- Swap with hand: Place this card in the column of your choice, then select another Event card from that column and swap it with one from your hand.
End of the Game
- Once all six Festival columns are full, the game is over.
- The players add up the total points in each of the Festival columns.
- Players with a single Ticket card at the top of a Festival column receive the full points from that column.
- Any player that has placed two Ticket cards at the top of the same column receives double the points.
- Players add the total number of points obtained with their Ticket cards across all columns.
- The player with the most points wins the game.
Example of End of the Game
Six Festival columns, with limits 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, and 5, finish full of Event cards and each topped by one or two Ticket cards. Adding and subtracting each column's Event card values gives column totals of +2, +3, +4, +1, +2, and 0.
Four players each hold Ticket cards across these columns, and their final scores are calculated by adding the column totals each of their Ticket cards claimed:
- Orange player: 2 + 4 + 0 = +6
- Pink player: 2 + 3 + 0 = +5
- Red player: 3 + 1 + 1 = +5
- Brown player: 4 + 2 + 2 = +8
The brown player has the highest score and wins the game.
