Assembly

1. Gameboard

Carefully punch out the gameboard from the cardboard sheet. Remove and discard cardboard waste from the four gameboard holes.

2. Barn Ramp

Insert Batteries: Turn the ramp upside down and remove the battery door with a Phillips head screwdriver. Insert two "AA" size batteries according to the "+" and "-" symbols. Replace battery door and screw it back on. See Figure 1.

CAUTION: To Avoid Battery Leakage

  • Be sure to insert the batteries correctly and always follow the toy and battery manufacturers' instructions.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries or alkaline, standard or rechargeable batteries.
  • Always remove weak or dead batteries from the product.

Test Batteries: Place the ramp right-side up. Put a playset mommy animal into the ramp's U-shape as shown in Figure 2. Press the animal down gently. You should hear the Old MacDonald tune and then the mommy animal's call to her baby. If you do not, your batteries may be weak or improperly installed. Check the batteries and test again.

Put Ramp on Gameboard: Place the ramp into the four holes in the gameboard as shown in Figure 3.

3. Barn Backdrop

Carefully punch out the barn backdrop from the cardboard sheet. Remove and discard cardboard waste from the two backdrop holes. Attach to the 4 tabs on the back of the ramp as shown in Figures 4A and 4B. Then slide down to fit in place.

4. Haystacks

Carefully punch out the 10 cardboard baby animal pawns and the cowbell pawn. There are 5 different baby animals (2 of each). Then firmly insert each pawn into its own special matching base. See Figure 5.

Important: There are names on each base for each baby animal and the cowbell (PIG, CHICK, LAMB, COLT, CALF, COWBELL). Be sure to match up each pawn and base correctly.

Listen to the Sounds!

Before you play, you may want to learn each animal's special sound by following Steps 1 & 2 in Game for Beginners. The baby animals sound similar to their mommies, but they are slightly different. Hear the sounds each mommy and baby makes — plus the ringing cowbell. Once you know which babies match which mommies, you're ready to play!

Game for Beginners

Object: Be the first to match two mommies to their babies to win!

Setup

  1. Place one set of 5 different baby animal pawns and 5 plastic haystack tops out of play.
  2. Cover the remaining 5 baby animal pawns and the cowbell pawn with plastic haystack tops. Press together to close firmly. See Figure 6.
  3. Mix up the 6 covered haystacks and place them on the gameboard as shown in Figure 7. (Figure 7 labels: "Place haystacks on any of these hay spots.")
  4. Place all mommies on the gameboard as shown in Figure 7. (Figure 7 labels: "Place mommy playset animals here.")

How to Play

Youngest player goes first. Play continues clockwise.

On Your Turn: Do the following two steps:

Step 1. Pick a Mommy & Listen! Choose any mommy. Place her into the ramp's U-shape. Press down to hear her call to her baby! (You'll first hear the tune of Old MacDonald and then the mommy's call!) See Figure 8.

Step 2. Choose a Haystack & Listen! Pick a haystack from the field and place it next to the mommy on the ramp. (All haystacks fit into the ramp's front oval-shape.) Press down to hear who's hiding inside! See Figure 9.

  • If the baby in the haystack sounds like the mommy, you made a match! Uncover the haystack to see the baby and place both the mommy and her baby near you. Your turn is then over. See Figure 10.
  • If the baby in the haystack does not sound like the mommy, you did not make a match. Do not uncover the haystack. Return the haystack and the mommy to their fields. Your turn is over. (Remember where that baby is for future turns!)
  • If the haystack sounds like a ringing cowbell, you did not make a match. See What to Do if the Cowbell Rings on the next page.

After you match one mommy and baby, then on your next turn, try to match another mommy and baby to win!

How to Win

First player to match two mommies to their babies wins! See Figure 11.

Game for Advanced Players

Object: Be the first to match two pairs of babies to their mommies to win!

The printed instructions give no separate setup for this game.

How to Play

Youngest player goes first. Play continues clockwise.

In this game, use all 11 pawns and follow Steps 1 & 2 in Game for Beginners to make your first match.

When you make your first match, do not uncover the haystack. Place the haystack-covered baby behind the mommy on the ramp as shown in Figure 12. Then immediately try to find that same mommy's other baby!

If you make a second match, collect the mommy and her two babies. (For example, you could find the mommy sheep and her two baby lambs.) Uncover both haystacks to see the babies. Your turn is then over.

If you do not make a second match, return all 3 animals to the gameboard and try again on your next turn.

If you hear a cowbell, you did not make a match. See What to Do if the Cowbell Rings.

After you match two babies to a mommy, on your next turn, try to match two babies to another mommy to win!

How to Win

The first player to match two pairs of babies to their mommies wins! See Figure 13.

What to Do if the Cowbell Rings

If the cowbell rings on any turn, you did not make a match! Now do the following:

  1. Return Mommy (& Baby) to Gameboard: Return the mommy to where you found her on the gameboard. If the mommy's haystack-covered baby is behind her on the ramp, return it to the gameboard, too.
  2. Return Cowbell & Trade Places: Now return the haystack-covered cowbell pawn to the gameboard and have it trade places with any other haystack pawn there! See Figure 14.
