Components

  • 1 rule booklet
  • 12 animal cards
  • 32 tool cards
  • 92 prey chips

Game Idea

3 to 5 players go on the hunt together. Because there are no agreements over the required spears, stone-axes or torches, the end is uncertain. With failure, there is a fight instead of prey. In order to come then safely home, they should still have ready a few clubs.

Object of the Game

The object of the game is to be the player with the most points in form of prey stones.

Short Overview

  1. Animal card uncovers
  2. Cards selects (simultaneous, secretly)
  3. Cards simultaneously uncovers
  4. Hunt appraises:
    • Hunt successfully - prey apportion
    • Failed hunt - fight
  5. Animal card discard, new cards distribute

Game Preparation

The 12 animal cards are shuffled and form the animal card pile. The 14 club cards and the 32 tool cards form a pile together and are also shuffled. From this pile, each player gets 5 cards at start of the game.

Game Play

The game goes over 12 rounds. In each round first an animal card from the animal card pile is uncovered. On the animal cards stand the tools, which necessary to kill the animal, as well as the prey.

The animal card shows the tools required to kill the animal, labelled torches, stone-axes and spears, and the prey, labelled teeth, fur and meat, each with a number. For example: 1 torch, 3 stone-axes and 4 spears are necessary to kill the wool-rhinoceros. From the wool-rhinoceros, there are 2 yellow prey stones (teeth), 2 grey prey stones (fur) and 4 red prey stones (meat).

Each player decides how many cards he wants to play. Agreements cannot be met. Then all players uncovered their cards simultaneously. With 3 players, 1-5 cards, with 4 player 1-4 cards and with 5 players 1-3 cards are allowed to play. 1 card must be played at least. Now one checks whether the animal was killed.

The number of cards per player depends on the number of players:

Number of players345
Like many cards one can play1-51-41-3
Like many cards one gets at the end of round332
Like many cards one can have on the hand665

1. Possibility

If all players have played the tools necessary on the animal card together, the animal is killed. The prey is distributed: The player with most tools can first take 2 prey chips; the player with the second most tools takes one prey chip etc, until the prey is apportioned. If all players had a turn and there are still prey chips, the player with most tools can take 1 prey chip at a time, as can the following players. With a tie, the player, who has played the lowest number, is always the first. Only required tools count.

2. Possibility

If not enough tools were played, the hunt has failed. The animal escapes, instead of prey there is a fight. Whoever has played most clubs wins. The winner gets a white prey chip (skull) and can take n any prey chip from the player with the fewest clubs, only no white chip. With a tie, the player, who has played the lowest number (club), is always the first. With a tie among the losers, the winner adjudicates from whom he takes a prey chip. If a player has no one or only white chips, the winner can take nothing of him.

If more clubs than tools are played, the hunt has failed and the fight occurs even if the tools would have extended to the kills of the animal! If nobody has played clubs and the tools are not enough, the animal escapes and there is no fight.

[Editor's note: the PDF text layer holds an additional sentence, "Whoever has played only tools that was not required to kill the animal or only clubs, receives no prey chips.", that is not visible on the printed page. It is recorded here, not in the Possibility text above, so the printed order is kept.]

After it has been determined, as the hunt has gone out, the animal card removes from game and the played cards discarded to the discard pile. Each player gets new cards: With 3-4 players 3, with 5 players 2 cards. The players check their limit after it: with 3-4 players 6 cards, with 5 players 5 cards. Surplus cards must discard to the discard pile. When the draw pile is exhausted, the discard pile is shuffled and used as new draw pile. The next round begins with uncovering a new animal.

End of the Game

The game finishes after the 12. Round after the hunt was appraised on the last animal.

Scoring

Each prey chip counts a point. Whoever of a prey chips type has most receives 3 points, with tie, there are no points. Whoever has all 4 prey chips type receives also 3 points.

The winner is the player with most points.

Example 1

[The card illustrations for this example are not transcribed; the printed text is reproduced below.]

Player A has played 5 spears, player B has 1 spear and 2 clubs, player C has played 1 torch and 4 stone-axes. Altogether, 1 torch, 4 stone-axes and 2 clubs were played. 1 torch, 3 stone-axes and 4 spears were required in order to kill the wool-rhinoceros. It was killed. The prey chips are distributed: A and C have played per 5 tools, the lowest number decides with it on it whoever first next is. A has the spear with the 2, therefore he receives the prey first, it follow C and B. Clubs doesn't count. 2x yellows (teeth), 2x gray (fur) and 4x red (meat) is to be distributed. A takes 2 yellows, C takes 1 gray, B also. It is still remaining prey chips: At begins with 1 red, C and B follow. Since 1 is still red remaining, receives this A in the 3.Round.

Example 2

[The card illustrations for this example are not transcribed; the printed text is reproduced below.]

2 torches and 5 spears are required in order to kill the saber-tooth-tiger. 3 torches, 1 stone-ax, 2 spears and 9 clubs were played. 3 spears are missing. The saber-tooth-tiger has therefore escaped and there is a fight. All players have played 3 clubs in each case. Therefore the player with the lowest number wins. A has the 37, therefore player A gets a white prey chip (skull) first. Because B and C have played the same number of clubs, A can decide, from whom he wants to take another prey chip.
