Value cards
There are 4 suits in different colours, with values from 1 to 8.
Explosive cards
On the front, the cards show money bags with positive values from 1 to 8. On the back, bombs are shown with negative values, also from 1 to 8. The digits on the front and back, whether positive or negative, always add up to 9. So if a card is worth +6 on the front, the back is worth -3.
Setup
The value cards are separated by colour. Each player receives one set and the matching colour card, which is placed in front of that player so that everyone knows which player has which colour. The explosive cards are shuffled. With 2 players, 3 cards are laid out with the positive side up; with 3 players, 4 cards; with 4 players, 5 cards; always one more than the number of players. The remaining explosive cards are set aside.
Play
All players now try to take positive explosive cards by playing their value cards. The player with the red value cards starts. They place one of their cards under any explosive card, and then the next player in clockwise order follows. That player may choose the same explosive card or a different one. All value cards must be played in a vertical line under the explosive cards and must remain visible at all times.
Rules for playing the cards
- Two value cards of the same colour cannot be placed consecutively in a line.
- Each number may appear in a line only once.
- The exception is the 8: it may appear more than once in a line.
A line explodes
A line has a positive value with up to 7 cards. If an eighth value card is played in a line, turn over the explosive card associated with it. Now the negative value on the back counts.
(With 2 players, lines do not automatically become negative if an eighth value card is played. In that case, the longest line at the end of a round becomes negative. If several lines are equally long, all of them become negative.)
Ending a round and scoring
As soon as all players have played all their cards, the round ends. Now each line is evaluated: each value card counts for its nominal value. The last card in each line scores 2 extra points.
The player who has the most points in a line receives the positive or negative explosive card associated with that line.
All value cards are separated and returned to the players. New explosive cards are laid out from the pile, with the positive side up.
The player to the left of the round's starting player from the previous round starts the new round.
Ties
If two or more players have the same number of points in a line of cards, the player who played the highest card in that line wins that explosive card. If there is still a tie, the second-highest card wins.
Winning the game
The game ends as soon as the pile of explosive cards runs out, or there are not enough explosive cards for a new round. Then all players add up the points of their explosive cards. The player with the highest total wins.
If you would like to play more, simply write down everyone's points and shuffle all the explosive cards again.
Special cases
If a player cannot play a card in any line of cards, they must choose a card from their hand to set aside and lose their turn.
If a player breaks a card-playing rule, the relevant card is removed from the current round and can only be used again in the next round.
Variant
The "a line explodes" rule for 2 players may also be applied with 3 or 4 players.
