VR Glasses

Unpack and fold the Escape Room VR Glasses to build your Virtual Reality viewer. These cardboard glasses turn your smartphone into a Virtual Reality viewer. Download the Escape Room The Game app and use the glasses with the enclosed Escape Room adventures. Since only one player can look through the glasses at a time, pass the glasses around your team so everyone gets to experience the Virtual Reality world during the adventure.

How to Play

Each mystery, Submarine and Behind Enemy Lines, is played on its own and lasts 60 minutes for 3 to 5 players.

  1. Download the free Escape Room The Game app.
  2. You need two smartphones: one runs the digital Chrono Decoder, and the other runs the Virtual Reality environment and goes inside the VR Glasses. If you own the original Escape Room: The Game base game, you can use its physical Chrono Decoder box instead of the digital Chrono Decoder app, and only need one smartphone for the Virtual Reality environment.
  3. Open the app on both phones. On the phone that will run the digital Chrono Decoder, select the digital Chrono Decoder. On the phone that will go into the VR Glasses, select the Virtual Reality environment for the mystery you are playing.
  4. Read the mystery's introduction together before you start.
  5. Start the Chrono Decoder (digital or physical) and the Virtual Reality environment phone at the same time, then put the Virtual Reality environment phone into the VR Glasses. The clock is now running.

Solve puzzles by combining hints and clues found in the physical components with what you find in the Virtual Reality world. Whenever you come across the text or logo ER, this means you must convert something using the Chrono Decoder, or use information from it. You will occasionally hear a signal indicating that you may take the next numbered Hint Card; slide it into the Hint Decoder to read it. Enter the codes you find into the Chrono Decoder to progress. Work together, share everything you see and hear, and try to beat the clock.

Submarine

You love your work as a researcher on a small submarine. Your dream has come true now that you are mapping out the most unexplored places on earth, deep-sea caves. You work with a team of individuals who you now call friends. The work is not easy, requiring significant physical training and apart from your knowledge of marine biology, you have also had to learn quite a bit about submarine technology. You realize that your undersea adventures are not without risk, but you have never had any real concerns.

Today is the last day of your mission, which is being conducted just off the coast. While you and your colleagues are setting up the camera to film the reefs in the front compartment, you suddenly hear a loud bang. A collision? A torpedo?

The submarine shakes on all sides, the lights and computers shut down and then you hear a frightening scraping sound. It is as if you have gotten stuck somewhere and the ensuing scraping along the rocks and cliffs cannot be good for the sub. You help your friends back onto their feet. You see the emergency lights that indicate that the generator responsible for charging the batteries is broken. The sub is damaged and may even have sprung a leak. There is just enough power in the main battery to generate oxygen for an hour. There is too little power to operate the sub the usual way (electrically), so you will have to perform all operations manually. Everything from navigating; to locating and restarting the engine; to rising to the surface. Luckily, you find the old fashioned emergency manual! Your lives are on the line…

Behind Enemy Lines

The time has come: you are now officially a soldier. You have completed all the necessary training and have been sent to a country far, far away. A bloody civil war has been raging here for years. The resistance has been broken and peace talks are being conducted between the new government and the rebels. To prevent hostilities from flaring up again, a military force will be stationed in the country until the new government is firmly entrenched.

Your mission is to take photographs of a number of locations indicated by informants. It is a dangerous mission because hostile groups are still active in this region. In other words, it is not a mission for the inexperienced. Fortunately, the helicopter is piloted by the strict but fair Captain Salvador Alvarez, a decorated veteran who knows the inhospitable region like the back of his hand.

But Alvarez is not his usual calm self today. He seems to be ill at ease. All of you notice this, but no one dares say anything. A simple soldier does not ask a captain about his state of mind, of course. Before you know it, you'd be scrubbing toilets for a few weeks.

Once all of the photographs have been taken, Alvarez gives a sign that you understand to mean that he plans to initiate the return flight. Just when everyone thinks that things are going well and perhaps it really is nothing more than a routine mission, the engine starts to sputter and choke. Alvarez gestures that he's taking it down… What's happening? You don't know where you are exactly, but what you do know for certain is that you're still above enemy territory.

The helicopter loses altitude extremely quickly and hits the ground with a thundering roar. Everything goes black. When you all come to again, you notice that Alvarez has disappeared. Did he flee? Did he go to look for help? You're stranded in enemy territory… and on the edge of a huge ravine. It will be dark in an hour, and a rescue will no longer be possible, leaving you exposed to the enemy's nightly patrols.
