1. Get Ready for the Challenge!

Use your brainpower! Teamwork, good communication, resourcefulness, creativity, logic and an eye for detail are very important so that you reach the goal together!

Are you ready for the ultimate challenge?

Contents

  • 3 adventures (each consisting of a folded game board and a band/sleeve):
    1. Bloody Mary
    2. The Little Girl
    3. House By The Lake (each adventure has a difficulty level shown)
  • Hint decoder

You need a fully charged smartphone with the ESCAPE ROOM THE GAME app, OR the Chrono Decoder and the keys from the base game ESCAPE ROOM THE GAME. Smartphone and Chrono Decoder are not included.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Read these rules carefully, even if you already know ESCAPE ROOM THE GAME! If you do not do this thoroughly, it may become impossible to escape!

IMPORTANT: READ, LOOK CLOSELY AND COMMUNICATE!

2. Web App and Website

The digital Chrono Decoder is your game master during the game. To start the digital Chrono Decoder and the thematic background music for the respective adventure on your smartphone, go to the web app app.escaperoomthegame.com. Via the web app you also reach the website www.escaperoomthegame.com, where you will find introductory texts for the adventures, solutions, downloads for used materials, and FAQs.

If you own one of the base games, you can also use the Chrono Decoder from it instead of the digital one.

3. Game Setup

Choose the adventure you want to play. We recommend beginning with the 15-minute introduction adventure BLOODY MARY, and then playing THE LITTLE GIRL and HOUSE BY THE LAKE (in this order). Take the adventure and carefully open the band/sleeve. On the back of the band are the hints for this adventure. Set the band aside a little; you may need it later. Do not unfold the game board yet, and place it on the table picture side up. Prepare the hint decoder, as well as a pen and note paper.

Chrono Decoder

Do you want to play with the Chrono Decoder from the base game? Then insert three new 1.5V R6 batteries into the Chrono Decoder and place the 16 keys next to it.

Do you want to play with the digital Chrono Decoder? Then open the page app.escaperoomthegame.com on your smartphone and choose the adventure and the digital Chrono Decoder. Do not forget to turn the volume up before the adventure begins!

You start the timer only when you are told to do so.

4. Object of the Game

Each adventure consists of three parts. To complete a part, you must find a code consisting of four keys and enter these into the Chrono Decoder. If you have entered all three codes correctly with the help of the keys within 60 minutes, you win the game!

5. Course of Play

As soon as you have finished the game setup and have read these instructions completely, you can get started.

Take the game board and calmly read aloud the introduction text on the back. Then unfold the game board exactly once to the left and right so that you can see Part 1. Read aloud the description including the contents, and check that all contents listed there are present.

Then press the START button on the (digital) Chrono Decoder. The time now begins counting down. You have only one hour; the adventure has begun!

Look closely at all contents (do not forget the backs!). Search for information, codes, puzzles and other mysterious signs, and work together to understand the logic behind the tasks.

As soon as you have found the first of the three codes, you must put the four correct keys into the (digital) Chrono Decoder (see "6. Keys").

If the code is correct, you hear a fanfare and may go on to the second part of the adventure. For this, unfold the game board exactly once at the top and bottom so that Part 2 becomes visible. Now you again look for a code for this part.

Once you have entered the second code correctly, you come to Part 3. You may unfold the game board completely and look at both the front and the back.

As soon as you have entered the third code correctly, the victory music sounds and the countdown stops. You have completed the adventure successfully!

If you cannot pass the adventure within one hour, the (digital) Chrono Decoder will count upward; you can of course keep trying to solve the puzzles.

NOTE: The adventure BLOODY MARY consists of only one part. As soon as you have read out the text and started the app or Chrono Decoder, you may unfold the game board to the left and right.

You may unfold and turn the game board again at any time to see Part 1 again, and you may of course turn the game board back over.

Components on which you see the printer symbol may be written on, folded, torn... Do whatever you like with them! After the adventure you can download and print them on the homepage www.escaperoomthegame.com.

6. Keys

For the (digital) Chrono Decoder there are six different keys. For each of the four positions of the code you must choose a key and put it into the matching slot of the (digital) Chrono Decoder. You may also choose keys more than once!

On each key you will find several details (front and back) which can be important. The keys show these features: Roman numeral, dot, arrow, number, shape, book, letter, zigzag edge, key bit/notched bar. Look at the keys closely before you start the adventure.

EXAMPLE: If you think the code is 3, D, ..., ... [the remaining two symbols are not legible in the source text], you put the following four keys into the Chrono Decoder in this order.

7. Hints

On the back of the band/sleeve you will find hints for the respective adventure. You can read the hints with the help of the hint decoder. The app or the Chrono Decoder will tell you at regular intervals by an acoustic signal that you may read the next hint.

Always read only the standard hint first. If this does not help you further, you may also read the extra hint, which gives more precise information. If you are completely stuck in a part, you can also look at the solution for this part.

Read the hints carefully! They can be very helpful!

Each hint is labelled with:

  1. Number: Read the hints in this order!
  2. Part 1, 2 or 3: Read this hint only if you are currently in this part of the adventure!
  3. Time: Read this hint only when the time shown has already been exceeded!
  4. Solutions: The solutions are shown here. Look at them only if you are not getting anywhere at all!

8. End of the Game

If you have entered the three correct codes into the Chrono Decoder within the 60 minutes, you will hear a fanfare. You have mastered the adventure! Take a photo of yourselves and share it on social networks!

If not all three codes were entered within 60 minutes, the device will inform you of your defeat. The Chrono Decoder will then count upward and you can continue to try to enter the correct codes. If you were not successful, or if you want to look at the exact solution path again, you will find all solutions and hints on the internet at www.escaperoomthegame.com.

Of course another group can also play this adventure. To do so you only have to download the components marked with the printer symbol from the page and print them out. Make sure you pack all contents with the matching parts. And when you have played all three adventures, many more exciting puzzles are waiting for you!

9. Important Tips

  • Tip 1: Communicate the whole time, do not keep any information from each other, every second counts!
  • Tip 2: You do not have to break or tear anything, but you may write on some parts or fold them. You recognize these parts by the printer symbol.
  • Tip 3: Make as many notes as possible; perhaps you can recognize connections that way!
  • Tip 4: Listen to each other well. Every idea can be important!
  • Tip 5: Of course you may also use items such as flashlights or calculators.
  • Tip 6: Read the rules aloud and carefully before the game and keep them ready during the game, should questions still come up.
  • Tip 7: At certain points you may perhaps become frustrated, but that is part of an escape room! If you do not get further, go through all the hints once more and consider whether you made an illogical conclusion at some point. Look at all components closely (front and back!) and compare your notes.
  • Never give up! All the answers are right in front of your eyes!

IMPORTANT: READ, LOOK CLOSELY AND COMMUNICATE!
