Game Setup
Play Area Setup
- Place the Map in the center of the table. In a 2-3 player game, place the Cover Tiles corresponding to the number of players along the outer edge of the map.
- Return the Area Scoring Tiles marked with the "3~" icon back to the box in a 2-player game, and return those marked with the "2" icon to the box in a 3 or 4 player game. From the remaining Area Scoring Tiles, randomly select 3 Tiles and place 1 face up on each of the 3 Area Scoring Spaces on the Map Board. Return unused Tiles to the box.
- In a 2-player game return the Design Tokens marked with the "3~" or "4" icons back to the box, and in a 3-player game return those marked with the "4" icon back to the box. In a 4-player game, use all the Design Tokens. Shuffle the Design Tokens thoroughly, then place 1 Token with the light-colored side facing up on each hex on the Map Board except for the hexes marked with an X. During this time, for each hex that shows a mining or water icon, the Design Tokens that show the same icon in any amount may not be placed there (for example, the Token showing "?=mining" may not be placed on a mining hex). If necessary, randomly reposition the Tokens.
- Place the Main Board next to the Map.
- Randomly select 1 of the 6 Artifact Tiles and place it face up in an empty space in the second row of the Development Area (on the left side of the Main Board). Return any unused Tiles back to the box.
- Place the Environment Marker on the "0" space of the Environment Track (the lower right area of the Main Board).
- Shuffle all the Objective Tiles (yellow) thoroughly, and place the "number of players + 1" Tiles in each of the 2 Objective Areas within the Research Track (the upper right area of the Main Board), with the light-colored side facing up. Return any unused Tiles back to the box.
- Separate the Mana Forge Tiles into 12 piles by color (Orange / Blue / Green / Purple) and level (I / II / III), and place them next to the Main Board. This area is called the Common Supply.
- Place the Gems and Coins into the Common Supply. Gems and Coins are considered unlimited. If they run out please substitute them with something suitable.
- The player sitting nearest to an electrical outlet becomes the starting player. Alternatively, choose a starting player at random.
Individual Player Setup
Each player chooses a color and prepares the following:
- Take your color's Mana Disc. Beginning with the start player and moving clockwise, place the disc on the left-most empty space of the Turn Order Track (the lower left area of the Main Board).
- Take your color's Victory Point Marker and place it on space "0" of the Victory Point Track (around the edge of the Main Board).
- Take your color's Research Marker and place it on the starting space on the Research Track.
- Take one set of left and right player boards and connect them in front of you.
- Take 2 Gem Income Tiles and 1 Coin Income Tile, and place them with the hand side facing up in the corresponding slots in the upper left area of your Player Board.
- On the upper-right area of your Player Board, place the following Markers as indicated:
- Workforce Marker: On space "1" of the Workforce Track
- Mining Rights Marker: On space "0" of the Mining Rights Track
- Water Rights Marker: On space "0" of the Water Rights Track
- Take 3 Initial Design Tokens (White) and place them in the Standby Area on your Player Board.
- Take all the Base Tokens and Cubes of your color and place them in front of you.
- Take 6 Coins from the Common Supply.
- Take 1 Artifact Activation Tile.
Preparation Round
In reverse turn order (from right to left on the Turn Order Track), each player performs the following steps:
- Take 1 Base Token from your supply and place it on any hex space on the Map that does not yet have any player's Token on it.
- To place the Base Token, pay 2 Coins to the Common Supply. In addition, for each adjacent hex that contains another player's Base Token, pay 1 Coin to that player.
- If there is a Design Token on the hex where you placed the Base Token, place that in the Used Area of your Player Board.
- Immediately gain the bonus shown on the hex where you placed the Base Token.
After all players have completed the Preparation Round, begin the game.
Game Objective
Players construct Mana Forges to generate Mana, and convert that Mana into Victory Points (VP) or Coins.
When any player reaches 15 VP, the game ends in the next round.
Calculate the final score and the player with the most VP wins the game!
Game Flow
The game is played over a series of rounds. Each round consists of 5 phases, which are resolved in order.
1. Action Phase
In turn order (from left to right on the Turn Order Track), each player takes 1 turn.
On your turn, perform 2 actions. When taking an action, follow steps (a) to (d) below.
(a) Place the Design Tokens
Choose 0-3 Design Tokens from your Standby Area and place them onto the 3 spaces in your Action Area.
When doing so, the following rules apply:
- Only 1 Token may be placed in each space.
- Each Token has effects on both sides. Each time you place a Token down, decide which side will be face up.
- You may place any Token in any space.
- Any number of spaces may remain empty, in any position.
(b) Check the Color Sequence
If you placed 3 Design Tokens in the Action Area, check the sequence of their colors.
If there are any rows in your Mana Forge Area (on the right side of the Personal Board) that contain 3 Mana Forge Tiles that match the exact same color sequence pattern, you gain the bonus shown on the right side of that row. The Mana Forge Area and Mana Forge Tiles details are explained later.
Important
- In the Action Area, only up to 1 Design Token with a rainbow stripe (Initial Design Tokens, and other certain Design Tokens) may be treated as 1 color of your choice. If you have placed 2 or more Tokens with rainbow stripes, or if you have not placed exactly three Tokens, you do not receive a bonus from any row.
- An Artifact Activation Tile placed in the Mana Forge Area may be treated as 2 Mana Forge Tiles of 1 of the 2 colors shown on the Artifact Tile (both spaces are treated as that color). Details are explained later.
- The sequence of colors must match exactly from left to right. The sequence may not be reversed.
- If multiple rows meet the condition, gain the bonuses from all of those rows.
Example
Anna places Design Tokens in the Action Area, and it now shows from left to right: Orange, Gray (Initial Design Token), and Blue.
In Anna's Mana Forge Area, the 2nd and 4th rows from the top contain Mana Forge Tiles arranged from left to right as Orange, Green, and Blue.
Likewise, the 3rd row contains an Orange Mana Forge Tile and an Artifact Activation Tile from left to right. The Artifact Tile shows Orange and Blue.
If Anna treats the Initial Design Token as Green, she gains the bonuses shown on the right side of the 2nd and 4th rows.
Alternatively, if she treats it as Blue, she gains the bonus shown on the right side of the 3rd row.
(c) Activate your Spaces
Activate all 3 spaces in your Action Area in order from left to right.
For each space, if a Design Token is placed there, resolve the effect shown on the visible face-up side of that Token.
If the space is empty, resolve the effect that is printed on the space itself. The effect details are explained later.
Important
- Some Design Tokens show a Gem cost or a Coin cost. These must be paid before resolving the effect. If you cannot pay the cost, nothing happens when that Token is activated.
- Resolving each effect is optional. Even if you placed a Design Token in a space, you may choose to do nothing for that space.
(d) Move the Used Tokens
Move all the Design Tokens in the Action Area to the Used Area.
Refill the Standby Area
If your Standby Area is empty before or after your action, return all your Design Tokens from your Used Area to your Standby Area.
The 4 Areas on your Player Board
Each Player's Board has 4 areas: the Standby Area, the Action Area, the Used Area, and the Removed Area.
By moving Design Tokens from the Standby Area to the Action Area, you gain their effects. After gaining the effects, move the Tokens to the Used Area. To use them again, you must wait until the Standby Area becomes empty. Any Design Tokens gained during the game are always placed in the Used Area.
Design Tokens may be moved to the Removed Area with a Free Action, described later on. By doing so, specific Tokens can be removed out of the cycle of Used -> Standby -> Action -> Used -> ... This is also useful for emptying the Standby Area and refilling it from the Used Area.
After completing your 2 actions of steps (a) to (d) twice, your turn ends.
Important
During the first round of the game, the second action is not performed. After completing the first action, your turn ends immediately.
After finishing your turn, the next player on the Turn Order Track takes their turn. Once all players have taken exactly 1 turn, the Action Phase ends.
2. Mana Production Phase
In turn order, each player activates their Mana Production only once.
Overview of the Mana Production
- Activate any number of Mana Forge Tiles and Artifact Activation Tiles in your Mana Forge Area.
- Add up the total amount of Mana gained from this Mana Production. On the Mana Track, place your Mana Disc on the space corresponding to that amount of Mana, or on any space to the left of it. If there is already another Disc on that space, stack your Disc on top of it.
- Gain the VP and Coins corresponding to the space where you placed your Disc. VP is tracked by advancing your Marker on the Victory Point Track. Details of how to produce Mana are explained later on.
3. Income Phase
This phase may be resolved simultaneously by all players. Each player gains the items shown on their Gem Income Tiles and their Coin Income Tile (located in the upper left area of their Player Board) from the Common Supply, if those Tiles are currently showing their income side.
At the start of the game, all Income Tiles are placed with the side showing the hand facing up. How to flip these Tiles is explained later on.
4. Salary Phase
This phase may be resolved simultaneously by all players.
Each player checks their Marker on the Workforce Track and pays the amount of Coins shown to the right of that position to the Common Supply.
If you do not have enough Coins, you lose 1 VP for each 1 Coin you cannot pay.
If you lose any VP, move your Victory Point Marker back by that amount. If this would reduce your score below 0, take -1 VP Tiles equal to the excess amount. When you later gain VP, return the -1 VP Tiles to the supply first, up to the number of VP gained.
Note: Even if you gained no Mana at all during the Mana Production Phase of this round, you must still pay the salary.
5. Turn Order Update Phase
The turn order changes for the next round.
The player whose Mana Disc is further to the left on the Mana Track (i.e., the player who has less Mana recorded on the Mana Track) will take their turn earlier.
If multiple Mana Discs are on the same space, the player whose Disc is positioned higher (i.e., who had a later turn) will take their turn earlier.
Rearrange the Turn Order Discs to show the new turn order.
Important
During the final round, the Turn Order Update Phase is not performed. After completing the Salary Phase, the game ends and proceed to final scoring.
End of a Round
If any player has reached 15 VP at this point, the next round becomes the final round.
If this condition was already met in the previous round, the game ends after completing the Salary Phase of this round and proceed to final scoring.
Icons
The effects represented by icons on the Design Tokens, Player Boards, the Main Board, and the Map can be broadly divided into the following 3 categories.
In addition, there are Free Actions that may be performed at any time during your own actions.
Effect 1: Gain Resources or Advancements
Gain the resources or advancements shown: Workforce, Mining Rights, Water Rights.
Advance the Marker on the corresponding track by 1 space. These values are referred to by other effects, but are never spent. Once increased, these values never decrease.
Each time your Marker on the Mining Rights Track or Water Rights Track reaches a space marked with a hand, flip 1 Income Tile of the same color to its income side. From then on, you will gain the corresponding income during the Income Phase.
If you advance a Marker beyond the end of any track, immediately gain 1 VP for each such extra space.
Gems +X / Coins +X
Gain X of the specified resource from the Common Supply.
In some cases, the number gained is determined by referring to your Mining Rights or Water Rights values.
Research +X
Advance your Marker on the Research Track by X spaces.
In some cases, the number of spaces advanced is determined by referring to your Mining Rights or Water Rights values.
If you reach or pass a space showing a bonus, gain it immediately.
If you reach or pass a space that connects to an Objective Area, choose 1 Objective Tile from there and take it. Place the taken Tile in an empty slot on the lower part of your Player Board with the light-colored side facing up.
If you have reached the dark brown area at the far end, you gain 2 VP at the end of the game (note that this VP is not gained immediately). This area on the board is looped: each time you move beyond the end of the track, advance your Marker in the direction indicated by the arrow.
Victory Points +X (immediately) / Victory Points +X (end of the game)
Gain X VP. Advance your Victory Point Marker forward X spaces on the Victory Point Track.
Icons of the light-colored variety grant VP immediately, while icons of the dark-colored variety are scored during final scoring at the end of the game.
Objective Tiles
These are the yellow Tiles that can be gained from the Research Track. Each player has up to 2 opportunities to obtain them during the game.
Both sides show the same "end-of-game scoring condition", but the background color differs in darkness.
- When gained, place the Tile in a slot on the left side of your Player Board with the light-colored side facing up.
- As a Free Action (described later), you may flip an Objective Tile in its slot to the dark-colored side to move 1 Action Token to the Removed Area.
- VP from flipped Objective Tiles are still scored at the end of the game.
Effect 2: Place a Base Token
Take 1 of your Base Tokens and place it on any hex on the Map that does not yet have any player's Token on it.
The amount of Coins you must pay depends on the number of Tokens on the adjacent hexes. If you cannot pay the appropriate amount, you may not place your Base Token on that hex.
- Pay the initial cost of 2 Coins to the Common Supply.
- However, for each adjacent hex that contains 1 of your own Tokens, reduce the initial cost by 1 Coin. The initial cost may be reduced to 0, but not below 0.
- In addition to the initial cost, for each adjacent hex containing another player's Token, pay 1 Coin to that player.
If there is a Design Token on the hex, place it in your Used Area. Regardless of whether you gained a Token or not, immediately gain the bonus shown on the hex itself.
If you have no Base Tokens remaining in your supply, you cannot gain an effect that allows you to place a new Token.
Example
Anna is attempting to place her Base Token on a hex as shown in the diagram.
The initial cost is 2 Coins, but since there is 1 adjacent hex containing another of Anna's own Token, the cost is reduced by 1.
Anna pays 1 Coin to the Common Supply.
In addition, there are 2 of Bill's Tokens and 1 of Chris's Token adjacent to this hex. Anna pays 2 Coins to Bill and 1 Coin to Chris.
Effect 3: Construct a Mana Forge
Choose 1 Mana Forge that is visible in the Development Area (left side of the Main Board). However, you may only choose a Mana Forge that meets all of the following conditions:
- You have at least the required amount of Workforce, Mining Rights, and Water Rights shown beneath that Mana Forge (these values are not spent).
- Your Marker on the Research Track is at the same height as, or higher than, the row where that Mana Forge is located.
- You can pay the construction cost of that Mana Forge.
The construction cost is the sum of the following:
- The amount of Coins shown in the upper right of the Mana Forge
- For each Cube (regardless of color) already placed on that Mana Forge: 2 Coins in a 2-player game; 1 Coin in a 3 or 4 player game
Pay the construction cost to the Common Supply and place 1 of your Cubes on that Mana Forge (this is allowed even if you already have some Cubes there).
If you choose a Gaia Mana Forge (Green) or a Dark Mana Forge (Purple), increase or decrease the Environment Value (the Marker on the Environment Track) by the amount shown at the bottom of the chosen Mana Forge. Any movement that goes below "0" or above "10" is lost.
Then, take the corresponding Mana Forge Tile from the Common Supply and place it in any empty space in your Mana Forge Area.
You may immediately gain the bonus shown on that space (you may also choose not to gain the bonus).
Then, if placing a tile fills all spaces in that row, you immediately gain the bonus shown on the right side of that row.
- If there are no empty spaces remaining in your Mana Forge Area, you cannot gain an effect that allows you to construct a new Mana Forge.
- Each Mana Forge type has 5 Tiles. Once they run out, that Mana Forge can no longer be constructed.
Constructing an Artifact
Instead of constructing a Mana Forge, each player may choose to construct an Artifact once per game.
The construction rules are the same as for Mana Forges, but the construction cost is paid in Gems instead of Coins (the method of calculation is the same).
If you already have your Cube on the Artifact Tile, you may not choose to construct the Artifact.
Instead of a Mana Forge Tile, place your Artifact Activation Tile in your Mana Forge Area.
The Artifact Activation Tile occupies 2 horizontal spaces. You may gain the bonuses from both covered spaces in any order. If there are no empty spaces of the correct shape, you may not construct the Artifact.
Flip an Objective Tile to its dark-colored side and remove 1 Token
This may only be done if there is an Objective Tile with its light-colored side face up in a slot on the lower part of your Player Board. Flip 1 such Tile to its dark-colored side.
Choose 1 Design Token from your Standby Area or Used Area and move it to the Removed Area. Initial Design Tokens may not be removed.
Example
Anna is performing the first action of her turn.
After resolving the effects and moving the Design Tokens from the Action Area to the Used Area, only 1 Blue Token remained in Anna's Standby Area.
If left as is, Anna would have only that 1 Token available in the second action.
So, Anna performs a Free Action: she flips 1 light-colored Objective Tile and moves the Blue Token from her Standby Area to the Removed Area.
This empties the Standby Area, allowing Anna to move all remaining Tokens from her Used Area back to her Standby Area.
Free Actions
You may perform the Free Actions any number of times and at any timing during:
- Your turn during the Action Phase,
- Your Mana Production timing during the Mana Production Phase, or
- The Income, Salary, and Turn Order Update Phases.
In other words, you may not perform Free Actions at times when only the other players are doing their actions.
There are 4 types of Free Actions:
Pay 3 Gems to gain 1 Coin
Remove 2 Tokens of the same color
Choose a total of 2 Design Tokens of the same color from your Standby Area and/or Used Area (you may choose 1 from each area). Move both of them to the Removed Area. At this time, one Design Token with a rainbow stripe may be treated as any color and may be combined with any other Token for removal. Initial Design Tokens may not be removed.
Pay Coins to gain 1 Gem
The number of Coins required depends on the current Environment value: 1 coin if it is 0-2, 2 coins if it is 3-7, and 3 coins if it is 8-10.
Mana Production
During the Mana Production Phase, activate any number of Mana Forge Tiles and Artifact Activation Tiles in your Mana Forge Area to produce Mana.
Add up the total amount of Mana gained from this Mana Production, then place your Disc on the Mana Track on the space corresponding to that amount of Mana, or on any space to the left of it. If there is already another Disc on that space, stack your Disc on top of it.
When you record your Mana on the Mana Track, you gain VP and Coins shown on that space.
The method of Mana Production differs depending on the type (color) of Tile. Each Tile has a per-round limit on the number of times its Mana calculation may be performed, shown inside a circle.
Gaia Mana Forge Tiles (Green)
Produce Mana equal to the base value indicated in the middle right side of the Mana Forge Tile. In addition, refer to the current Environment value shown on the Environment Track to produce additional Mana. At this time, the Environment Marker does not move.
If you have multiple Gaia Mana Forge Tiles, each Tile may independently refer to the full Environment value.
Example
Anna is activating 2 Gaia Mana Forge Tiles.
From the Level I Tile, she gains 1 Mana as the base value. The Environment Track has an Environment value of 9, and this Tile produces 1 additional Mana for every 3 Environment. However, since this Tile may only perform Mana calculations twice per round, the additional Mana gained is limited to 2.
Next, from the Level III Tile, Anna gains 3 Mana as the base value. Again referring to the Environment value of 9, this Tile produces an additional 4 Mana. Anna gains a total of 10 Mana from the 2 Gaia Mana Forge Tiles. In all of the calculations, the Environment value is only referred to and is not spent (the Marker does not move).
Water Mana Forge Tiles (Blue)
Refer to your Water Rights value and produce the amount of Mana indicated. The Marker on the Water Rights Track does not move.
If you have multiple Water Mana Forge Tiles, you must allocate your Water Rights value among them. You may choose which Tiles to use and how many Mana calculations are performed.
Example
Anna is activating 2 Water Mana Forge Tiles.
Anna has a Water Rights value of 4.
She uses the remaining 1 Water Rights value to perform 1 Mana calculation on the Level I Tile (gaining 1 Mana).
Anna gains a total of 10 Mana from the 2 Water Mana Forge Tiles. In all of the calculations, the Water Rights value is only referred to and is not spent (the Marker does not move).
Fire Mana Forge Tiles (Orange)
Pay your Gems to produce the amount of Mana indicated.
If you have multiple Fire Mana Forge Tiles, Gems must be paid separately for each Tile. You may choose which Tiles to use and how many Mana calculations are performed.
Example
Anna is activating 2 Fire Mana Forge Tiles.
Anna has 8 Gems.
She uses her remaining 2 Gem to perform 1 Mana calculation on the Level II Tile (gaining 5 Mana).
Anna gains a total of 15 Mana from the 2 Fire Mana Forge Tiles.
Dark Mana Forge Tiles (Purple)
Pay Coins to produce the amount of Mana indicated.
If you have multiple Dark Mana Forge Tiles, the Coins must be paid separately for each Tile. You may choose which Tiles to use and how many Mana calculations are performed.
Artifact Activation Tiles (Beige)
Check the 2 colors shown on the Artifact Tile.
Produce 1 Mana for each of the Design Tokens of those colors in your Standby, Action, and Used Areas.
Note that the Tokens in the Removed Area and Wild Design Tokens are not counted.
Example
Anna is activating an Artifact Activation Tile.
The Artifact Tile shows Orange and Blue. Anna has a total of 3 Orange Design Tokens and 2 Blue Design Tokens across her Standby, Action, and Used Areas.
Therefore, the Artifact Activation Tile produces 5 Mana (5 Tokens x 1 Mana).
Mana and VP
- Mana is a temporary value that resets each turn. You will gain VP and Coins based on the total Mana gained during that turn.
- VP is a permanent value accumulated over the course of the game. Whenever you gain or lose VP, track them by moving your Marker on the VP Track.
End of the Game and Final Scoring
When any player reaches 15 VP, the game ends after completing the Salary Phase of the following round.
After that, calculate the final scores. Each player checks their total VP.
1. VP gained during the game
2. VP from the Map
The Map Board is divided into 3 areas indicated by the hex's color (Yellow, Green, and Blue).
For each area, determine the player who has the largest number of Base Tokens.
The players in 1st place and 2nd place each gain the VP printed on the Area Scoring Tile for each element counted.
If multiple players are tied for 1st in an area, all of them score using the 2nd place scoring, and all other players gain no VP.
If multiple players are tied for 2nd, none of them gain VP.
Important
The elements referred to by the Area Scoring Tiles are counted across the entire Map, not only within the area where the Tile is placed.
3. VP from the Research Track
If your Marker has advanced to the dark brown area of the Research Track, gain 2 VP.
4. VP from the Mana Forge Area
For each column in your Mana Forge Area, if all 4 spaces are filled with Mana Forge Tiles or Artifact Activation Tile, gain VP according to the method shown beneath that column.
5. VP from Objective Tiles
For each Objective Tile you have (regardless of which side is face up), gain VP according to the details shown on the Tile.
Add all of the above. The player with the most VP is the winner!
If there is a tie, among the tied players, the player whose Mana Disc is further to the right on the Mana Track (i.e., the player who has more Mana as recorded on the Mana Track in the final round) wins.
If there is still a tie, among those players, the player whose Mana Disc is positioned higher (i.e., who took their turn later in the final round) wins.
Tile Reference
Area Scoring Tiles
Gain the VP shown according to your placement, multiplied by the number of that element you have as shown on the tile.
Important
Your cluster refers to the group of your Base Tokens that are continuously adjacent to each other. A single cluster cannot be divided into multiple clusters.
- The number of your Base Tokens that are in your single largest Cluster. (1st: 1 VP per 1, 2nd: 1 VP per 2)
- The largest number of your Base Tokens aligned in a single straight line (they do not need to be adjacent). (1st: 1 VP per 1, 2nd: 1 VP per 2)
- The total number of your Base Tokens in the other 2 Areas excluding this Area. (1st: 1 VP per 1, 2nd: 1 VP per 2)
- The number of your Clusters consisting of 1 or more Base Tokens. (1st: 1 VP per 1, 2nd: 1 VP per 2)
- The number of your Clusters consisting of 2 or more Base Tokens. (1st: 1 VP per 2, 2nd: 1 VP per 1)
- The number of Design Tokens on your Player Board that match either of the 2 colors shown on the Artifact Tile (excluding Tokens with a rainbow stripe). (1st: 1 VP per 1, 2nd: 1 VP per 2)
- The number of your Base Tokens located on the outer edge of the map. (1st: 1 VP per 1, 2nd: 1 VP per 2)
- The number of your Clusters consisting of exactly 3 Bases that form a triangle. (1st: 4 VP per 1, 2nd: 2 VP per 1)
- The number of your Base Tokens that are adjacent to at least 1 opponent's Base Tokens. If you have 4 or more of these they will not be counted. (1st: 1 VP per 1, 2nd: 1 VP per 2)
Objective Tiles
Important
In each Objective Tiles calculations, an Artifact Activation Tile located in the Mana Forge Area is counted as one Mana Forge Tile of either of the two colors indicated on the Artifact Tile.
- Gain 1 VP for each Gaia Mana Forge Tile you own.
- Gain 3 VP for every 2 Water Mana Forge Tiles you own.
- Gain 3 VP for every 2 Fire Mana Forge Tiles you own.
- Gain 3 VP for every 2 Dark Mana Forge Tiles you own.
- Gain 1 VP for each of your Base Tokens that shows a Gem icon as a bonus (it may also show other elements such as Water Rights). This also includes those indicated by the Cover Tiles.
- Gain 1 VP for each of your Base Tokens that shows a Coin icon as a bonus (it may also show other elements such as Water Rights). This also includes those indicated by the Cover Tiles.
- Gain 3 VP for every 2 of your Base Tokens that show Mining Rights as a bonus.
- Gain 3 VP for every 2 of your Base Tokens that show Water Rights as a bonus.
- Gain 3 VP for each Area Scoring Tile on which you are the sole 1st place player.
- Gain 1 VP for every 3 Gems you own.
- Gain 1 VP for every 3 Coins you own.
- Gain 1 VP for every 2 Mana Forge Tiles you own (including Artifact Activation Tiles).
- Gain 3 VP for every 2 Level II Mana Forge Tiles you own. (Artifact Activation Tiles are also counted as one tile.)
- Gain 2 VP for each Level III Mana Forge Tile you own.
- Gain 3 VP for each row in your Mana Forge Area in which all 3 spaces are filled with Mana Forge Tiles or Artifact Activation Tile.
- Gain 2 VP for every 3 Design Tokens in your Removed Area.
- Gain 1 VP for each Workforce you have.
- If the Environment Value is 2 or less, gain 3 VP; if it is 3-7, gain 6 VP; if it is 8 or more, gain 9 VP.
Solo Rules
In the Solo Rules, you play a 2-player-style game against a virtual player called Automa.
Important
From this point on, the human player playing the game is referred to as "you", and the virtual opponent is referred to as Automa.
Solo Rule Components
- Solo Cards x28 (Includes 1 Summary Card)
- Scenario Cards x10
Scenario Card
- Scenario Difficulty
- Number of Actions Automa Performs Each Round. In the first round, Automa always performs only 1 action.
- Environment Value Adjustment. When the Automa gains an Environment Value adjustment from the research track, you can increase or decrease the Environment Value.
- Design Tokens Gained in the Game Setup
- The Action Automa Takes When Gaining a Wild Design Token. Normally, Automa performs a Simulated Mana Forge Construction (see below) on a Mana Forge of the specified color.
- The Base Mana Value
- The Objective Tile that Automa Refers to at the End of the Game
- Additional End-Game Scoring Conditions for Automa
Play Area and Individual Player Setup
Follow the setup rules for a 2-player game, with the following additions and changes:
- In the 2 Objective Areas, place only 2 Objective Tiles each (instead of 3). At this time, it is acceptable if the selected Scenario Cards show the same Objective Tile.
- You are the first player in the first round.
- Create an Automa Area within your reach to manage Automa's components. Choose 1 color to represent Automa, and place that color's Cubes in the Automa Area.
- Place Automa's color Mana Disc, 2 Markers for the Research Track and the VP Track in their respective locations. Automa does not receive any other Individual Player Components. Automa also does not receive any starting Coins.
- Choose one scenario you wish to play and place the Scenario Card in Automa's Area.
- Check the Design Token shown on the selected Scenario Card. Find the Solo Card that shows the same Token and set it aside for now. Shuffle the remaining Solo Cards thoroughly and place them face down as the Solo Deck in the Automa Area.
Preparation Round
During the Preparation Round, Automa goes first (since the turn order is reversed). Place the Solo Card that was set aside during setup face up in the Automa Area.
Automa then resolves the instructions shown on that Solo Card in the following order:
- Find the hex on which the Design Token shown on the Solo Card is placed. Place 1 Automa Base Token on that hex and place the Design Token in the Automa Area. Automa does not pay any Coins and gains no bonus from the hex.
- Advance Automa's Marker on the Research Track by 2 spaces.
- Among the Mana Forges in the first row of the Research Track, place 1 Automa Cube on the Mana Forge of the same color as the Token just taken. Automa ignores all costs and conditions and does not gain a Mana Forge Tile. However, if a Dark Mana Forge (Purple) is chosen, adjust the Environment value as usual.
After Automa finishes its processing, you resolve the Preparation Round as per usual.
If there is an Automa Token on an adjacent hex, you pay an additional 1 Coin to the Common Supply.
1. Action Phase
In turn order, you and Automa each take 1 turn.
On Your Turn
Take your turns as usual and perform two actions per turn.
Important: In the first round you only take one action, as in the standard game.
- For all effects and costs, follow the rules for a 2-player game.
- Automa's Tokens on the map increase your Base Token placement costs as if they were another player's Token. However, the increased Coin cost is paid to the Common Supply, not to Automa.
- Automa's Cubes on the Mana Forges and the Artifact Tile increase your construction costs as if they were another player's Cubes.
On Automa's Turn
On each of Automa's turns, Automa performs the number of actions shown on the Scenario Card (1 - 2 actions).
However, during the first round, Automa does not perform the second action.
At the start of each action, reveal the top Solo Card from the Solo Deck and place it to the right of the other Solo Cards in the Automa Area.
Following the newly revealed Solo Card, Automa performs both "1. Base Token Placement and Research" and "2. Simulated Mana Forge Construction", in that order.
1. Base Token Placement and Research
Automa's actions depend on whether the Design Token shown on the current Solo Card is still on the Map.
If the corresponding Token is still on the Map:
As in the Preparation Round, place 1 Automa Token on that hex and move the Design Token to the Automa Area. Automa does not pay Coins and does not gain bonuses from the hex.
Then, advance Automa's Marker on the Research Track by 2 spaces.
Exception: If Automa runs out of Tokens, it does not place a Token and instead gains 1 VP for each missing Token.
If the corresponding Token is not on the Map:
Advance Automa's Marker on the Research Track by 4 spaces.
Notes
- Each time Automa reaches the "Environment Change Bonus" space at the end of the Research Track, adjust the Environment value up or down as specified on the Scenario Card.
- Automa gains no other bonuses from the Research Track and never takes Objective Tiles.
2. Simulated Mana Forge Construction
Among the Mana Forges in the same row as Automa's Marker on the Research Track, place Automa's Cubes on the Mana Forge of the same color as the Token shown on the current Solo Card.
If the indicated Token is a Wild, choose a Mana Forge of the color specified on the Scenario Card.
The number of Cubes placed is:
- 1 Cube if Automa gained a Design Token during "1. Base Token Placement and Research"
- 2 Cubes if Automa doesn't gain a Design Token during "1. Base Token Placement and Research"
Automa ignores all costs and conditions and does not gain Mana Forge Tiles or an Artifact Activation Tile.
However, if a Gaia Mana Forge (Green) or Dark Mana Forge (Purple) is chosen, adjust the Environment value as usual.
Important
If all 3 of the following conditions are met, 1 of Automa's Cubes placed this time is placed on the Artifact Tile instead of on a Mana Forge:
- Condition 1: There is no Automa Cube on the Artifact Tile yet.
- Condition 2: Automa's Marker is on the second row of the Research Track.
- Condition 3: The Artifact Tile includes the color of the Token shown on the current Solo Card. (If the indicated Design Token is Wild, the color of the Mana Forge specified on the Scenario Card is considered to be included in the Artifact Tile. In Scenario 10 it is treated as not included.)
Exception: If Automa runs out of Cubes, it does not place a Cube and instead gains 1 VP for each missing Cube.
2. Mana Production Phase
In turn order, you and Automa each perform the Mana Production once.
During the Mana Production Phase, Automa gains the amount of Mana shown in the upper left of all face-up Solo Cards in the Automa Area. If a Base Mana Value is shown on the Scenario Card, add it as well.
Record the total Mana on the Mana Track. Automa gains the VP shown on the corresponding space.
Your method of Mana Production does not change.
3. Income Phase
4. Salary Phase
There are no Automa processes in these 2 phases (Automa gains no income and pays no salary). You resolve these phases as usual.
5. Turn Order Update Phase
Refer to the Mana Discs of both you and Automa and adjust turn order as per usual.
End of the Game and Final Scoring
When either you or Automa reaches 15 VP, the game ends after completing the Salary Phase of the following round.
You score points as usual. For VP from the Map, treat Automa's Tokens as another player's Tokens and compare the placement as per usual.
Automa scores VP as follows:
- VP gained during the game.
- VP from the Map. Automa scores points in the same manner as you, based on the placement of its Tokens.
- VP from the Research Track. Even if Automa's Marker has reached the dark brown area, Automa gains no VP.
- VP from the Mana Forge Area. Automa does not score based on the usual way. Instead, it gains VP as specified on the Scenario Card (in the silver border) at the end of the game.
- VP from Objective Tiles. Automa does not score based on the usual way. Instead, it gains VP from the Objective Tiles (with a gold border) indicated on the Scenario Card. These are calculated in the same way as normal Objective Tiles; however, when referencing the Mana Forge Tiles you own, instead refer to the Automa cubes placed in the Design Area.
If your total VP is higher than Automa's, you win. If Automa's total is higher, you lose. In the case of a tie, determine the winner by comparing Mana Disc positions as usual.
Scenario Cards Reference
- Scenario 1: The Gateway to Elementica. End-Game Scoring Conditions: 1 VP for each orange Design Token.
- Scenario 2: Financial Planning. End-Game Scoring Conditions: 1 VP for each Design Token showing a Coin.
- Scenario 3: The Green Garden. End-Game Scoring Conditions: None.
- Scenario 4: A Strategic Waterway. During the Preparation Round, gain the Design Chip from the hex that has the bonus of Coins and Water. End-Game Scoring Conditions: 1 VP for each hex where Automa has a Base Token and the hex shows the Water Rights bonus.
- Scenario 5: The Discovery of a Dark Element. End-Game Scoring Conditions: 1 VP for each purple or wild Design Tokens.
- Scenario 6: A Key Mining Site. During the Preparation Round, gain the Design Chip from the hex that has the bonus of Coins and Mining. End-Game Scoring Conditions: 1 VP for each hex where Automa has a Base Token and the hex shows the Mining Rights bonus.
- Scenario 7: Symbiosis. Building a Dark Mana Forge does not decrease the Environment value. End-Game Scoring Conditions: 2 VP for each green Design Tokens.
- Scenario 8: An Elemental Storm. End-Game Scoring Conditions: 1 VP for each Design Tokens showing Water Rights.
- Scenario 9: A Research Breakthrough. When the research level increases, place a Cube on the Mana Forge indicated by the solo card revealed at that time. End-Game Scoring Conditions: None.
- Scenario 10: The Colossal Network. When the research level increases, place a Cube on the Mana Forge indicated by the solo card revealed at that time; if the color is wild, nothing happens. Instead of performing the Simulated Mana Forge Construction, the Automa places a Base Token on a hex that grants 1 VP on the map. The Placement priority is: Yellow -> Green -> Blue areas. If all such hexes are already occupied, no Token is placed. End-Game Scoring Conditions: 5 VP for each set of green, orange, and blue Design Tokens.
Summary: Automa's Functions
- Automa never gains or pays Gems or Coins. If a cost requires them, it ignores that cost.
- Automa has no Workforce, Mining Rights, or Water Rights. If these are required as conditions, they are ignored.
- Automa places Tokens on the map according to Solo Card instructions, increasing your Cube placement costs. Automa does not gain any hex bonuses.
- Automa takes Design Tokens from hexes where it places Tokens. These Tokens remain in the Automa Area and are never used.
- Automa advances on the Research Track according to Solo Cards, gaining only Environment Change Bonuses. It does not gain any other bonuses.
- Automa never gains any Mana Forge Tiles or an Artifact Activation Tile. However, it places Cubes on Mana Forges and the Artifact Tile, increasing your construction costs.
- Automa performs Mana Production by referring to all the Solo Cards revealed so far.
- Automa gains VP from Mana Production and final scoring. It gains no VP from the Research Track, and VP from the Mana Forge Area and Objective Tiles are replaced by the Scenario Cards scoring.
