If I end up with the King or Intrigue card, do I also get my played card's special action?

Under the Big Box rules, in 2-3 player games you choose one of the two actions, and in 4-5 player games you must take the King or Intrigue action instead. The Player's Edition rules let the highest and lowest holders choose for any player count, and the original 2006 wording gave no choice. You never get both.
