The Game

"El Cinéfilo" is a board game about cinema. Two or more players can take part, individually or in teams. The objective is to win all the tokens on the board by guessing which film each drawn scene belongs to and answering questions about it.

Game Dynamics

It is recommended to shuffle the cards before starting the game. Each player or team has their own board; each may choose any of the four motifs available.

The game begins with the team that includes whoever proposed playing.

The starting team draws a card and hands it to an opponent to read it aloud, turns over the sand timer and begins its turn. It must guess which film the scene belongs to and try to correctly answer the four questions on the card before time runs out. The questions often serve as clues for recognizing the film, so the team in play may ask for them to be read immediately once the time starts, without yet having recognized the film. This also determines the difficulty level. For great film buffs, it is recommended not to read the questions until the film has been recognized.

To guess the film (question 1) as many answers as desired may be risked, but to answer the remaining questions (2, 3, 4 and 5) only one answer may be risked. If the team does not recognize the film, it may ask for the answer, without obtaining a point for that question. However, it does not lose the right to answer the other four questions and obtain the respective points.

One card is played per turn, and then the turn passes to the team on the left.

The Cards

Each card contains an illustration of a movie scene and five questions related to it. Each correct answer is worth 1 point. The team to the right of the team in play is in charge of checking the answers in the answer book. Once all the questions have been answered, the points obtained are announced and the type of token won is determined.

The Tickets (Entradas)

The objective of the game is to fill the entire cinema, which consists of three types of locations: platea (stalls), pullman and superpullman. You must obtain 3 tickets of each location to complete the theatre and win the game. The location of the tickets depends on the number of correct answers obtained per card. If fewer than three points are obtained, no ticket is won.

LocationNumber of correct answersEquivalences
Platea5----------
Pullman43 Pullman => 1 Platea
Superpullman33 Superpullman => 1 Pullman

Tickets of different locations may also be exchanged according to the ratio in the table above. That is, a team that has obtained 3 Superpullman tickets, for example, may choose to exchange them for 1 Pullman ticket. This exchange is not mandatory, but an aid for achieving the objectives. This equivalence does not work in reverse. If one wants to exchange a token for another of lower value, the equivalence is 1=1. This will happen, for example, if a team completes the Platea tickets (value 5) before the Pullman (value 4) or Superpullman (value 3) ones and answers all the questions on the card correctly. Despite having answered 5 questions, it must choose a ticket of lower value.

Game Mode Variant

If the game turns out to be difficult, it is recommended to reduce the number of correct answers needed to win the superpullman ticket. For example, instead of correctly answering three questions to obtain a superpullman ticket, it can be established that two correct answers are enough.
