Assembly
- Cut out the "Settlers" and "Builders" cards. There will be a white border around the cards.
- Cut out the 5 mountain tokens.
Game Setup
- When setting up the basic game, select one player to place a mountain token on a region that does not already have a token until all five mountains are placed.
- Place the "Builders" and "Settlers" cards next to the board.
Rules
Mountains
- A player may not move an army out of a region with a mountain token unless he has at least one other of his armies there.
- The first player to build a city in a region with a mountain token places the city on the mountain token. It is now a "mountain city" and is now worth two armies when determining control. Each mountain token can only hold one city. Additional cities may be built in a region with a mountain city, but are not counted as mountain cities (they are built to the side of the mountain token).
- Control of a region with a mountain token is worth 2 victory points (instead of 1) at the end of the game.
Settlers
- On a player's turn, he may choose to use the "Settlers" card. For one turn only, he may pay an opponent two coins to use that opponent's city token as if he owned it for the purpose of placing new armies. Once the "Settlers" card has been used, flip it over; it may not be used again in the game.
Builders
- After a player takes a card and completes his normal action, he may claim the "Builders" card if he has the required goods. He needs 2 carrots, 1 lumber, and 1 iron. If he claims the card, he may build one city immediately. Once the "Builders" card is claimed, flip it over; it may not be used again in the game.
