Setup
Split the deck of cards into 4 parts by suit and divide the players into two teams:
- Red team: one player takes all the cards numbered 1 to 7 of Hearts into their hand; the second player takes all the cards numbered 1 to 7 of Diamonds.
- Black team: one player takes all the Spades cards into their hand; the second player takes all the Clubs cards.
Each player also takes the joker card in the color of their team.
Set all coins and medals aside.
Players on the same team must sit next to each other. They must keep their cards secret from the opposing team, but not from each other.
You are ready to start the game!
Gameplay
The goal of each player is to win the most rounds out of 7. A team is awarded a gold-colored medal as soon as it wins 4 rounds.
In each round, the winning team is the one whose player played the card with the highest value. However, if any player at the table plays a card of identical value, both cards neutralize each other, i.e. they burn. In that case, the round is decided by the highest card still in play.
End of Game
The game ends as soon as one of the teams earns 2 medals for its card battles. That team is declared the winner.
Advanced Rules
The advanced variant removes all communication from your game.
All players choose a card to play from their hand and place it in front of them. As soon as every player has decided, all players simultaneously turn their cards face up. Then all identical cards burn and are removed from the playing area; they no longer take part in the game.
If a single joker has entered the play area, the owner who played that joker chooses any value for it after looking at all the cards played by the other players. If there is a highest card on the table (and the player assigns the joker the same value, 7), both cards are annulled and the round is credited to the remaining highest card.
If two pairs of identical cards appear on the table, the cards are returned to hand and the round is replayed.
As soon as you tally the round, the played cards are stacked in a column in the center of the table, and a silver coin is placed on the highest card to mark the winning team. The next round then begins.
The game continues until one of the teams wins 4 rounds, or until each player has only one card left in hand. At that point, the team that won the greater number of rounds receives a gold medal. Scoring is kept up to two medals.
A draw in this game is impossible!
