Components

  • 2 purple wizards
  • 2 orange wizards
  • 2 dragons
  • 24 tiles
  • 36 element spell cards
  • 36 tile spell cards
  • 4 player guide cards

Design by Jeff Fitzgerald and Maggie Stewart. Art by Terrana Cliff.

Players: 2-4. Playing time: 15-25 minutes. Ages: 8+.

Setup

  1. Choose teams and assign the player cards.
  2. Split and shuffle the two decks (the element spell deck and the tile spell deck). Deal each player 1 card from each deck, face down.
  3. Randomly arrange the tiles face up, with gaps, as shown below.
  4. Place the wizard teams and dragons on the tiles as shown, with the spell decks on either side.

Layout by player count (P1, P2, etc. are the teams' positions):

  • 2 players: P1 P2 P1 P2
  • 3 players: P1 P2 P3 P2
  • 4 players: P1 P2 P3 P4

Each player is able to control both of the wizards on their team. Any player may go first.

Play proceeds with teams alternating turns, so it is a good idea to sit in alternating team order. In a 3-player game, one player controls a team alone, with two turns each round.

You may affect the same piece or tile multiple times.

Turn Structure

On your turn, do the following 3 things in order:

  1. Draw 2 cards. Either 2 from the same deck, OR 1 from each deck. You may look at the first card before drawing the second.
  2. Play cards. Transform the board, move the dragons (both teams control them) and/or move the wizards on your team. You may play as many cards as you want (including none). You may affect the same piece or tile multiple times. Discard played cards face up by the decks they are from. Reshuffle a discard pile if a deck runs out.
  3. End with 6 or fewer cards. Discard if you must.

You cannot tell your partner which cards you have.

Moving Wizards and Dragons (Element Spells)

You may cast Element spells to move dragons or wizards between adjacent tiles. During your turn you can control the dragons AND the wizards on your team. You must play the elements along the path to move between two tiles (see figure).

Element movement rules and examples:

Figure captions:

  • Need 1 wind and 1 water spell.
  • Need only 1 fire spell.
  • Need 1 wind and 1 water spell (a second figure shows the tile being removed after moving).
  • Can't move over holes.
  • No diagonal movement.
  • Can't be on the same space as other wizards.

You only need 1 card when the elements along the path match. No wizard may be on the same space as another.

Any wizard that gets tagged by a dragon is removed from the board. The dragons may never be on the same space.

When you move a dragon, you remove and keep the tile it came from, making the board shrink as the dragon moves.

Wildcards for Element spells: You may play any 3 of the same card from the element deck as any card from the element deck.

Tile Spells

Tile Spells let you rotate, move and add tiles:

  • This spell allows you to rotate any tile by 90°, 180° or 270°, even if the tile has a piece on it.
  • This spell allows you to move any tile into an adjacent hole. Any piece on it moves with the tile. Tiles cannot move outside of the smallest rectangle you can draw around the board (green dashed line), which may change as the dragons move.
  • This spell allows you to place one of your captured tiles (if you have any) into any empty space inside the smallest rectangle you can draw around the board.

Wildcards for Tile spells: You may play any 3 of the same card from the tile deck as any card from the tile deck.

Example

Say a purple player starts their turn with 3 cards: Fire, Water and Rotate. If they draw a Move and a Water card at the start of their turn, their hand becomes: (the resulting hand is shown in the example figure, which is not in the text layer).

To capture the orange wizard, they could:

  1. Move the tile with the dragon into the neighboring hole.
  2. Play a Water card to move the dragon onto the middle tile.
  3. Rotate that tile 180°.
  4. Play a Water and a Fire card to move onto the wizard's space.
  5. Remember to remove all but the rightmost tile and the wizard.

Winning the Game

The game ends when both wizards from one team are eliminated. The surviving team wins.
