Molecular Objective
Help Dr. Beaker finish his experiments! Use your stick to move the molecules into your flask and carry out the objective card methodically. The first player to collect 10 objective cards wins the game.
Preparation Phase
Each player takes a flask, a stick and 6 molecules (2 of each colour).
Place the molecules into the flask and shake it until the molecules are each placed in a compartment. Use your stick if needed.
The flask has 8 compartments in total: 6 in the rotating platform (A) and 2 in the central part (B).
Shuffle the objective cards and place them face down in the centre of the table to form a draw pile.
Carrying Out Experiments
When all players are ready, the oldest player turns over the first card from the draw pile.
Players must place the molecules in their flask as the objective card shows, using their stick and by turning the platform.
Note: Molecules must be moved through the central part. A molecule cannot pass directly from one compartment to another by going over a wall or over another molecule.
The central part serves as a transition zone for the molecules.
When players correctly carry out an objective card, they must announce "Eureka!" out loud.
Depending on the number of players and final position, each player gains the number of cards shown in the table below.
| 1st player to finish | 2nd player to finish | 3rd player to finish | 4th player to finish | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 players | 3 cards | 2 cards | 1 card | no card |
| 3 players | 2 cards | 1 card | no card | |
| 2 players | 1 card | no card |
At the end of each round, players leave their molecules in their final position for that round. When all players are ready, a new card is turned over by the player to the left of the first player, and a new round begins.
End of Game
The first player to collect 10 objective cards wins the game.
Variants: 4 to 8 Players
These variants are played in teams of two, with the two players seated face to face.
The Chemist and the Lab Assistant
In each team, one player represents the chemist and the other the lab assistant.
The lab assistant takes the first card from the draw pile without showing it to the chemist. The lab assistant gives step-by-step instructions to the chemist to carry out the objective card. The chemist is the only one who uses the flask and stick, and the lab assistant is the only one who can see the objective card.
The first team to carry out the card wins it and scores 1 point. The first team to score 5 points wins the game.
After each round, the players swap roles.
The Chemistry Nobel Prize Race
One player from each team takes the first 4 cards from the draw pile. They then choose their 3 favourite cards and arrange them in whatever order they want, so as to give an advantage to their partner. Their teammate will play with the flask and stick.
Once both teams are ready, the players with flasks try to complete the 3 objective cards one by one, in the order chosen by their partner.
The first player to finish the 3 cards collects one of them and scores 1 point. The first team to score 5 points wins the game.
After each round, the players swap roles.
