1 Mountain (1 Base plate, 3 Mountain walls, 1 Mountain peak with dodo holder, 3 Base plate holders, 14 Plastic rock outcrops), 1 Dodo with nest, 1 Wibbly-wobbly egg, 1 Cliff edge, 6 Bridges, 1 Boat, 58 Building material tiles (eight each: bamboo tubes, leaf, hammer, wooden plank, nails, rope, 10 Hagulaminapitopasi wildcard tiles), 1 Die with stickers.
Game Objective and How to Play
The egg must not fall off the cliff! If you manage to build all the bridges and the boat in time and the egg rolls safely into the boat at the dock, you all win together! You start building Bridge 1 at the top of the mountain. As soon as the first bridge is finished, you build the second, then the third, and so on, until you have built the sixth bridge and can finally dock the boat.
Game Preparation
See separate leaflet for assembly instructions.
A Place the mountain in the middle of the table.
B Put the six bridges in a pile with their brown back side up. Pay attention to the ascending sequence of numbers: Bridge 1 is at the top, Bridge 6 at the bottom.
C Put the boat near the dock.
D Shuffle the 58 building material tiles face down (with the back side up) and lay them out evenly around the mountain.
E The wobbly egg likes to be warm: Take the egg in your hands and roll it around between your palms. Then put the egg in the nest.
F Sit around the mountain so that you can easily reach all mountain walls, bridges and tiles.
Setup Diagram Labels
- Outcrop — the plastic rock outcrops on the mountain walls.
- Cliff edge — attached at the top of the mountain.
- Dock — where the boat is moored at the foot of the mountain.
- Bridges — the pile of six bridges, brown back side up.
- Storage space for tile — the spaces on each bridge that must be filled with building material tiles.
- Skull storage spaces — only for the expert variant.
Here We Go!
The youngest player receives the die. They carefully tip the dodo forward so that the bird looks down the mountain and the egg can roll away.
Hurry up, the egg is rolling!* Build the bridges quickly...
* If, for some inexplicable reason that presumably only the Hagulaminapitopasi know, the egg stops rolling, give it a nudge with your finger so that it begins to roll again before you continue playing.
Turn Action
-
Roll the die once.
-
Find building materials: Turn a tile over...
Does the revealed tile match the building material on the die? Excellent! Place the tile on an empty storage space on the bridge that is currently being built. When all bridges have been built, you put it on a free storage space on the boat's dock.
Does the revealed tile show a different building material to the die? How annoying! Turn the tile over again. Try to remember it for next time!
Did you reveal a Hagulaminapitopasi? Great, this is a wildcard tile that you can immediately place on the next free storage space, regardless of what you rolled.
-
Quickly pass the die clockwise. Now it is the next player's turn.
Mangalopanese Wisdom: Help Each Other!
You can give each other hints on a correct tile or even turn it over for each other if you have memorised the position in previous turns. While one player is building a bridge, another player can simultaneously throw the used tiles into the crevice. This saves you valuable time!
Building Action
-
Have you filled all the storage spaces on the bridge with building material tiles? Put the used tiles aside and turn the bridge on its front. Immediately place it carefully on the mountain, making sure that the bridge is in the middle slot in the wall and that the two rock outcrops are sticking out!
-
Are all storage spaces at the dock also filled? Put the used tiles aside and immediately put the boat on the dock ready to catch the egg.
Throw the used tiles into the crevice slot at the mountain top. They land in the cave and are no longer needed in this game.
Game End
Have you built all six bridges, moored the boat on the dock and has the egg rolled off the 6th bridge into the boat? You made it! The wibbly-wobbly egg is saved. You use the boat to bring the egg and the dodo to the safety of a neighboring island. The Hagulaminapitopasi are proud of you and hold a big party in honour of the Dodo!
Oh no! Did the egg fall off the mountain? Perhaps you didn't build all the bridges or the boat in time? Or were you not careful enough when building? Sadly the game is over. Are you ready to try again?
Advanced Variant
Do you want to make the game more difficult? Shuffle fewer (or none) of the ten Hagulaminapitopasi wildcard tiles in with the building material tiles. The other wildcard tiles remain in the box.
Expert Variant
Do you want to know an even bigger Dodo challenge? No problem! From now on you also have to fill each of the skull storage spaces. So to complete each bridge (except the first) and the boat you have to find more building material tiles.
How to Care for the Island's Mountain
Check the following if the egg "slides" out of its nest too quickly at the beginning of the game:
- Is the table and island's mountain level?
- Gently press down the corner of the mountain top that is on the opposite side of the nest opening.
- Hold the egg in your hands and shake it a few times (don't worry — the egg can take it!) before placing it in the nest.
