Aim

To get rid of your cards as fast as possible. The last player with cards in their hand must stick a dino-poo sticker on themselves and wear it for 140-million years.

Set Up

Shuffle the pack. Deal three cards to each player face down and lay them out in a row.

You must not look at these cards until the end of the game.

Now deal three more cards to each player face up and lay them on top of the face down cards.

The remaining cards go face down in the middle of the table to form the pick up deck.

Finally, deal three cards to each player, face down. These are the cards in their hand, so only they can see them.

Play

Choose a player to go first. They lay down any card from their hand [next] to the pick up deck, face up - it's usually best to start with a low card. If they play a Dino Number Card (1-8) then the next player must play a Dino Number Card that is the same number or higher. They cannot play a number that is lower.

If they don't want to play a Dino Number Card, (or don't have one), they can play a Dino Power Card (if they have one). More about those below.

After playing a card, if you have less than three cards in your hand, you must pick up a card from the deck. You must always have at least three cards in your hand, until the pick up deck runs out.

If a player cannot play a card they must pick up the whole discard deck. Ouch!

Once the face up cards have been used, the player must play the three face down cards without looking at them, so it's going to be pot luck.

You cannot play your cards on the table if you have any cards in your hand. You must lose those first before you can touch them or go back to them.

2 Player Game Example

The leaflet illustrates a two-player set-up with three face up cards on top and three face down cards below each player's stack, with the pick up deck and the discard deck in the middle. The cards in Player 1's hand and in Player 2's hand are to be kept secret.

Dino Number Card Rule

If you have two or more of a number (let's say you have two Number 5 cards) then you can play them at the same time (as long as you are playing it onto a card of the same value or higher, of course).

If the top four cards in the discard pile are all the same number, then the whole discard pile is wiped out and removed from play - just like a Burn Deck Power Card would do.

Dino Power Cards

These cards are filled with Prehistoric Power and can be played on ANY card.

  • Back to 1: This card resets the deck back to one. The next player can play any number they like on top.
  • Can't See Me: Think of this card like it's invisible. The next player must now play a card that works with the card under your 'invisible one'.
  • 4 or Under: This card means the next player must put down a Dino Number Card that's 4 or under (or another Power Card).
  • Switch Direction: This card reverses the direction of play. (In a two-player game it means you get another go.)
  • Burn Deck: This card completely wipes out the discard deck and removes it from the game. You get to play a new card after this has happened to start a new discard pile.

Advanced Rule

When you get good at the game you can introduce this advanced rule. If you have a run of three or more numbers of the same colour, you can lay them all down at the same time.

For example: if you had a 3, 4, 5 and 6 in your hand, and they were all the same colour, you could put them all down at once. It's a good way to get rid of lots of cards quickly.

The Dino-Poo Stickers

The last player to get rid of their cards has the lovely honour of wearing a dino-poo sticker. Wear it with poo-ride.

Winning

Play continues with everyone trying to get rid of any cards in their hand. When the cards in the draw pile have been used up and there are no more cards in a player's hand, they can start playing the three face up cards on the table in front of them.
