Course of Play
Each player receives a mouse figure and places it on the start space. The youngest player begins. Players then take turns rolling the die. Each player moves forward by the number rolled.
If two mouse figures stand on the same space, the figure that is thrown out is sent back. (Translator's note: the German sheet does not say which of the two figures is thrown out. The French text on the same sheet says the mouse that arrives on an occupied space chases out the mouse that was already there, which must return to the start space. This is the reading followed here.)
Mouse Hole
If during play a player lands on a space that leads to a mouse hole, the player must slide into that mouse hole.
Advantage: a mouse in a mouse hole cannot be thrown out, and with a little luck it can even reach the goal faster.
How does the mouse get out of the mouse hole? The die decides.
- If a 3 is rolled (brown die, three dots), the player starts again at the entry hole.
- If a 6 is rolled (green die, six dots), the player takes the shortcut (indicated by the green arrow on the board).
- If a 2, 4 or 5 is rolled (red dice), the player must take the detour (indicated by the red arrow on the board).
- If a 1 is rolled (yellow die, one dot), the player must miss one turn, but only if the player is in a mouse hole.
Mousetrap
Whoever steps into the mousetrap shortly before the goal must miss 2 turns.
Afterwards, the player places the mouse figure on the space above the mousetrap and continues from there.
End of Game
The first player to slip into the cheese with a direct roll (an exact throw) has won the game.
