Free Play and Discovering Details
In free play, your child can step into the role of Maya the Bee and explore the game materials. Join in the fun! Discover together who is hiding in the meadow. Talk about the colors of the flowers and try fishing for them with Maya.
Before You Begin
Place the meadow (bottom of the box) in the center of the table. Put the five flowers and the cloverleaf inside, printed side up.
Each player takes a flower board and places it in front of them. Place the flower tiles next to the meadow as a shared supply. Any unused game materials go into the box lid. Keep the die and the fishing rod with Maya ready.
Let's Get Started
Play in turns clockwise. Who can buzz like a bee? You begin and roll the die.
What does the die show?
- A color? Name the color! Take the fishing rod with Maya and try to fish for the flower in the color you rolled.
- Maya the Bee has caught the correct flower. Great! Take a flower tile in that color and place it on the matching spot on your flower board.
- If you already have that color, you may not fish and may not take a flower tile.
- Maya the Bee has caught the wrong flower. That happens, not every try is a success! Unfortunately, you may not place a flower tile.
- Maya the Bee has caught the correct flower. Great! Take a flower tile in that color and place it on the matching spot on your flower board.
- The green cloverleaf? How lucky! Take the fishing rod and try to catch the cloverleaf.
- Maya the Bee has caught the cloverleaf. Bravo! You may choose one flower tile that you have not yet placed.
- The cloverleaf is not on the rod. Too bad! Maya missed the cloverleaf. Unfortunately, you may not choose a flower tile.
Afterwards, place the flower or cloverleaf you fished back into the meadow. Then it's the next child's turn.
When Does the Game End?
The game ends as soon as a child has placed their fifth flower tile on their flower board. Congratulations, you win!
Tip: Young children often have shorter attention spans. To make the game quicker, allow a child to choose any flower tile if they already have the color they fished.
Solo Variant
Play by the rules of the basic game with the following changes:
- Play with only one flower board and the five matching flower tiles. Place the remaining flower boards and tiles in the box lid.
- Place each correctly fished flower or the cloverleaf next to the meadow.
- Watch out! If you roll a flower or the cloverleaf that you have already caught, or if you catch the wrong item, you must place any one flower tile on your flower board.
- You win when the meadow has been completely cleared. However, if you have placed all five flower tiles on your board and there are still pieces left in the meadow, you lose.
