- 1 Prairie board
- 21 cows
- 5 General Store cards
- 12 Cowboy cards
- 4 Rodeo cards
Setup
- Place the Prairie board over the base game board, between the Town Hall and Doc Badluck's wagon. The Prairie has only one space for a Property Deed, and the cattle pen is located below it.
- Place 20 cows on the Prairie board.
- Add the 5 new General Store cards to the General Store deck.
- Shuffle the 12 Cowboy cards (3 Heart, 3 Spade, 3 Club and 3 Diamond) and place them facedown in a stack next to the Prairie board. Then turn over the top 2 cards and place them faceup next to the Cowboy deck.
- Place the 4 Rodeo cards, each worth 10 VP, below the game board.
New Location Actions
Town Hall (Location Change)
The player who assembled the best poker hand takes a faceup Property Deed.
Aces no longer give players the right to take additional Property Deeds.
If you have the Wild West expansion: the second action (take a Property Deed) is unchanged.
Prairie (New Location)
The player with the most aces performs one of the following Prairie actions:
- Cattle Rustling;
- Hiring a Cowboy.
If you have the Wild West expansion: as in the other locations, if more than two players are playing, the player with the most aces performs one of the two Prairie actions, and the player with the second-most aces performs the remaining action.
1) Cattle Rustling
Steal 1 cow for each ace in your poker hand. If there are cows in the Prairie, you must steal from the Prairie; if there are none, you must steal cows from the herd of one or more opponents.
After stealing cows, place them in front of you; they form your herd. You may immediately place part of your herd on one or more of your Property Deeds. In that case, place a faceup Property Deed and put cows on it in a number equal to the Property Deed's value. (Important: the number of cows placed must exactly match the value of the Property Deed.)
Placing cows on a Property Deed gives 3 advantages:
- this Property Deed can no longer be stolen from you;
- the cows on this Property Deed can no longer be stolen;
- at the end of the game, this Property Deed is worth 1 additional VP.
Keeping cows in your herd is dangerous, because they can be stolen; however, the player with the largest herd receives 10 VP at the end of the game.
If you have the Wild West expansion: you cannot place a cow on the ranch.
Example: Boris had 2 cows and gets 4 more for the 4 aces in his poker hand. Now his herd has 6 cows. Since he has a Property Deed with a value of 5 VP, he decides to put it on the table and place 5 cows on it. Now Boris's herd has 1 cow left. The Property Deed can no longer be stolen, and its value at the end of the game is raised to 6 VP.
2) Hiring a Cowboy
Take one of the two faceup Cowboy cards. Then place the top card of the Cowboy deck into the free slot.
There are 4 types of Cowboy cards, each with its own effect.
A Cowboy card's effect applies until the Cowboy card is replaced by a Rodeo card (see below). Effects of Cowboy cards of the same type stack.
- Spade Cowboy: Play this card when you use a mine. Get 1 more gold nugget for each of your Spade Cowboys.
- Diamond Cowboy: Play this card when you rob the bank. Each opponent must give you $1 for each of your Diamond Cowboys.
- Heart Cowboy: Play this card when an opponent steals from you at the Saloon. The opponent draws 1 card fewer from your hand for each of your Heart Cowboys. This way, the stealing player can see fewer cards in your hand. If you cancel all of the opponent's dice, they cannot steal anything from you.
- Club Cowboy: Play this card when you steal cows from the Prairie. Steal 1 more cow for each of your Club Cowboys.
Rodeo: When a player collects 1 Cowboy of each type, they must immediately exchange them for a Rodeo card worth 10 VP.
End of the Game
Each Property Deed with the corresponding number of cows on it is worth 1 additional VP at the end of the game.
The player with the largest herd of cows (cows that are not standing on Property Deeds) receives 10 VP at the end of the game. In case of a tie, the players with the largest herds receive 5 VP each.
Each Rodeo card is worth 10 VP.
New General Store Cards
Herder Play this card when an opponent steals cows from you. No one can steal cows from you for the rest of this round. The opponent must steal cows from another player. If there is no one else to steal from, the stealing player gets nothing.
Lasso Play this card when you steal cows. Steal 2 cows for each ace in your poker hand instead of 1.
Recruitment Play this card when you hire a Cowboy. Take 2 faceup Cowboy cards instead of 1.
Persuasion Play this card when the mayor rewards you at the Town Hall. After taking Property Deeds, take 1 Property Deed for each ace in your poker hand. Keep 1 of these cards and remove the rest from the game.
Bribe Play this card when the mayor rewards you at the Town Hall. Instead of taking a faceup Property Deed, take 2 Property Deeds facedown from the Property Deed deck.
