Game Components

  • 1 smartbox
  • 10 answer tokens
  • 100 double-sided question cards
  • game rules

Object of the Game

Players take turns trying to find the correct answers to the question. If they know the correct answer or can estimate it, they earn a winning point. However, if they take too many risks, they may lose points. The winner is the first player to earn at least 20 winning points.

Setup

If there are more than four players, form teams. Agree on when the game will end: by default the game is played to 20 winning points, but to shorten the game you may agree that it ends as soon as 15 points are reached.

The corners of the smartbox contain score counters marked with symbols. Each player chooses one symbol and with it the corresponding counter (A). Make sure the cards are placed correctly in the smartbox, i.e. that the answers are clearly visible in the holes (B). Place the 10 answer tokens into the holes in the smartbox. Slide the top card out and place it at the bottom of the question card deck (C).

The game can begin.

Gameplay

Players take turns. The youngest player starts the game. The player whose turn it is reads the question in the centre of the card aloud and may try to find the first correct answer to the question of their choice. The player on turn always has the option to answer or to pass.

TIP: In the first turn of each round, always try to answer, because if you answer incorrectly you risk nothing.

  • If the active player decides to answer, they state aloud the answer they believe is correct. They take the corresponding answer token to check whether the answer is correct (see the example on the next page).
    • Was the answer correct? Excellent! The player keeps the answer token in front of them.
    • Wrong answer? The player is out of the round for this turn. They are no longer able to answer any further question in this round. They set the answer token aside but do not return it to the smartbox. By answering incorrectly, the player also loses the right to all tokens they gained in this round (points gained in previous rounds, i.e. from previous cards, naturally remain with the player).
  • Once a player has answered and checked the correctness of their answer, they pass the smartbox to the next player (it does not matter whether the player answered correctly or incorrectly). The next player proceeds in the same way: they either answer or pass. And so on.
  • Are only answers remaining in play about which you are not sure? Or does it seem that no correct answer remains? You may give up the next turn (= pass) and pass the smartbox to the next player. In that case you do not risk losing the answer tokens gained in this round. You only give up the possibility of answering further in this round.

Opening and Closing the Smartbox

The smartbox opens from the right side. Open it by gently pushing the middle part of the right side (visible from above) towards the right, and then pull the whole side up. Close it by the reverse procedure. Make sure the teeth on the sides fit correctly into the grooves.

Question Categories

Question cards may use the following answer formats. You choose which question to answer and how to answer it, according to the category of the question:

  • TRUE/FALSE: Answers are either true or false. To earn a point, you must select only the true answer. However, you do not know in advance how many true answers are available in the given round. If you think only false answers remain in play, pass.
    • Variant: If agreed, you may award points also for correctly identifying false answers.
  • NUMBER: Answer the question with the correct number or the correct date, of your own choosing.
  • ORDER: Guess the correct order of the answers to the question, of your own choosing. For example, in the question "Rank the sports by size of their playing field (1 = largest)", answer "fourth" and select "ice hockey". Remove the corresponding answer token and keep it as a winning point. You do not have to answer in the correct order; for example, you may start the round with the seventh position.
  • CENTURY/DECADE: State the correct century or decade (for example, "in the seventies of the twentieth century").
  • COLOUR: State the correct colour.
  • OPEN QUESTIONS: Guess the correct word, name, etc.

Example

In the question "Is this a state symbol of the Czech Republic?" two answers are already revealed. "state seal" is the correct answer and "coronation jewels" is the incorrect answer. This means one player has already dropped out of the round.

End of Round

A round ends when either all 10 answer tokens have been removed, or when all players have passed or dropped out as a result of an incorrect answer. When the round ends, all players count the answer tokens they have gained, record 1 point on their score counter for each token, and return the tokens to their places in the smartbox.

New Round = New Card

Before starting the next round, make sure that all tokens in the smartbox cover the answers to the questions. Only then remove the top card (the card guessed in the previous round) and slide it to the bottom of the deck. This procedure must be followed so that no player sees the answers to the new set of questions in advance. The new round is started by the player to the left of the player who started the previous round.

End of Game

The game ends when any player or team reaches at least 20 points (or another number of points agreed in advance). That player or team wins.
