What You Get
108 cards and this rules sheet.
Hit Strength
Every Mook and item card has a number of bullets in the upper left corner. This number is the card's hit strength, or hits for short.
How to Come Out on Top
Mooks go into the score pile of the player that whacked them. Any cards on the whacked Mook are discarded and do not count toward victory. The first player to accumulate Mooks with 10 or more hits in their score pile wins.
How to Start
Shuffle the Mook deck and deal 3 cards face-up to each player. Afterward, place it in the middle of the table where all players can reach it. Then shuffle the Mafia deck and deal 3 cards to each player. Place it next to the Mook deck. Discards should should be piled next to the Mafia deck. If the Mafia deck ever runs out, shuffle the discards and replace it. Do not reshuffle unless you have to, though, because some cards let you take cards from the discard pile.
The player with the highest total Mook hits in front of him starts the game. If there is a tie, the first player to the left of the dealer goes first.
Component note: the sheet's illustrations are labelled "Mafia deck" and "Mook deck".
Turn Order
- Draw a Mafia card.
- Turn over newly recruited Mooks.
- Play as many Mafia cards as you'd like from your hand.
- Take one of the following actions: Whack, Draw a Mafia card, or Recruit a Mook.
- Discard excess Mafia cards if you have more cards than you have Mooks in front of you.
Playing Mafia Cards
Mafia cards include items, such as Weapons, Disguises, and Vehicles, and action cards such as Boost, Fugazi, and I Know A Guy. Recource cards are played directly on top of a Mook, making sure to keep all cards in the stack visible. You may play as many Mafia cards on as many Mooks as you wish during your turn.
If you play an item card of the same typ on a Mook that already has one, such as a Disguise on a Disguise, the old one in discarded.
The different categories of item cards are differentiated by color (red for Weapons, blue for Disguises, and green for Vehicles), and an icon on the top of the card.
Component note: the sheet's illustrations are labelled "Weapon", "Disguise" and "Vehicle".
Whacking Mooks
In order to whack a target, your Mook needs a Weapon, a Disguise, and a Vehicle. Once he has all three items in his stack, you can use him to whack any Mook whose total hit strenght is less than equal to his own. After whacking someone, your Mook has to discard a piece of evidence, such as his Weapon, Disguise, or Vehicle. This reduces his overall strength and makes him a target, so choose carefully.
NOTE: If you have more than one Mook ready to attack, taking a Whack action lets you attack with each of one, letting you attack the same opponent more than once or multiple opponents with different Mooks.
Playing Action Cards
Action cards may be played at any time, even on another player's turn. For example, you may play a Fuhgeddaboutit card to stop a Mook from being whacked even if it is not your turn - and even if it is not your Mook! Multiple Fuhgeddaboutit cards may be played in succession, with each reversing the actions of the previous card, Once played, the Action card goes directly to the discard pile.
Recruiting a Mook
Draw a card from the Mook deck and place it face down in front of you. You may peek a this card but do not show it to other people. This card counts as one of your Mooks when determining hand size, but he cannot be whacked or be equipped with item cards. Turn over this Mook at the start of your next turn, at which point he is in play. If at any point you run out of Mooks in front of you, play continues as normal. No one is out of the game unless they run out of Mooks and there are no more to draw from the Mook deck.
Impossible Instructions
If you are ever given an instruction that you cannot follow, like taking a card from the discard pile when there are none, just ignore the impossible instruction. If the rules printed on a card ever conflict with the rules written here, the rules on the card supersede the rules written here.
