Game Material

25 scoring stones (in 5 colors)

54 nose tiles

(Each tile consists of 2 squares each with a nose. There are 10 different noses.)

Preparation

The nose tiles are mixed and a dealer distributes them among the players.

Each player places his tiles face-up in front of himself.

Each player takes 5 scoring stones in a color.

Game Goal

In the course of the game, tiles are play, forming an interrelated surface. Identical noses, connected horizontally or vertically, form a nose-group. Players use their scoring stones to mark ownership of nose-groups. The player who has the most valuable nose-groups wins the game.

Playing Tiles

The player left of the dealer begins the game.

Turns pass clockwise. If a player can play, he must play.

Whoever cannot make a play, passes.

Tiles may only be positioned such that:

  • at least two squares on existing tiles are touched. (See figures 1, 2, and 3.)
  • and at least one of the horizontally or vertically touching noses matches. (See figures 4, 5, and 6.)
  • and that does not cause the total space used to exceed a 10 square by 10 square space (see figure 7).
  • and that leaves no holes in the structure (see figure 7). Gaps at the edge do not count as holes.

Figure 7:

The red tiles marked may not be placed, because they would extend beyond the 10x10 space.

The blue tile may not be placed, because it would leave a hole within the structure.

Playing Scoring Stones

Whoever adds a nose to a nose-group may play one of his scoring stones on this nose-group. This nose-group is his for the moment. If no scoring stone is played, there is no owner.

Whoever adds a nose to a nose-group where a scoring stone is already present, returns the scoring stone to its owner. He may now place one of his on scoring stones on the nose-group. If no scoring stone is played, there is no owner.

Whoever forms or extends two nose-groups with a tile may place two scoring stones.

Whoever links two or more existing nose-groups can remove any existing scoring stones and replace them with one of his own.

Scoring stones may freely taken from a player's reserve or from among those previously played. Only newly formed or expanded nose-groups may be played upon, however.

End of the Game

The game ends when no more tiles can be played.

Each nose within an owned nose-group is worth one point.

The player with most points has won.
