Setting up
Choose the colour pair you want to play with as well as the map reference marker with the same colour. Place your men on their home bases: Vacar and Verger in the Vicarage. Mainwaring and Wilson in the Bank. Pike in his Mum's House. Fraser in the Funeral Parlour. Jones in the Butchers. Godfrey in his House. Leaving Warden Hodges, who is not a member of any team, to be placed in the beach shelter. Now shuffle the small WD Top Secret Cards and put them at the side of the board face down.
Moving
You move your men by throws of the dics. You may only move one man in one go. No more than 3 men are allowed on one square at a time. You may only move horizontally or vertically, backwards or forwards, BUT NOT DIAGONALLY. You cannot enter the same square twice in one move. You may move anywhere on the board, even across country or into the sea. You may only go in and out of buildings by the entrances, which are indicated by cut-outs in their sides. AND you should try to block the advance of the other players' men by using the WD Top Secret Cards.
Top Secret Cards
Cards must be used immediately.
In order to use Top Secret Cards, you must throw the exact number to move your men through the doorway and into the WD Top Secret bases. When you get a man there, you may take a card representing:
ANY MEMBER OF THE TEAM:
Throw the dice again and move that man the exact number of spaces indicated. Away, of course, from his map reference unless it happens to be one of your men in which case you just take a second go with him. You can even move your own man into another WD Top Secret base and collect another card.
HODGES:
You may 'Hodge' any man you like. To do that you simply swap Hodges and the man around. You can, if you like, Hodge one of your own men to your own advantage.
AIR RAIDS:
Play the card and move your men to the air raid shelters of your choice, then all the other players should take it in turns to place their men in whichever air raid shelters the like. No-one may put both men in the same shelter. No more than 3 men should ever occupy any one shelter. Now you throw the dice, and the number you get indicates the number of Bomb Markers you may drop. Place them on the board wherever you like, except the following which are bomb-proof:- Air Raid Shelters and their entrances; WD Top Secret Bases; squares on which men are standing. No playing piece may land on ir jump over a square that has been bombed. Once a bomb is dropped, the only antidote is to play a Union Jack.
UNION JACKS:
When you play a Union Jack card you throw the dice to dind out how many Union Jack Markers you may take. You use these to replace the Bomb Markers. Once they're laid you can jump over Union Jacks and move more quickly across the board. The only time you can choose NOT to jump one is when it is on your map reference. You may keep one Union Jack if you wish, to use later, in which case you must use it before you throw the dice. You must play the others immediately.
Once you've played any of these WD Top Secret cards, you place them at the side of the pack.
How to get your map reference
Take the larger cards (THE ORDERS) and separate them into two packs, black and pink. Shuffle both packs and deal one of each card to each player. Everyone should now have one black and one pink card that together form a map reference. Say for instance that you have pink 4 and black 3, look at the board and trace an imaginary line between the two white pointers. The square where these two imaginary lines meet is your map reference. You must mark it with your Reference Marker.
Your ordersare to get your TWO men to it. (In this case it's the EWS tank). NOTE: if your map reference is in a building, you must draw two more cards to get a 'clear' reference. Anyone can move into or across anyone else's map reference, even when it is occupied.
Important things to note
The first plaer to get his two men on his map reference wins the game. But remember, that each man must call in at least one WD Top Secret base on the way. You must throw the exact number on the dice to land each of your men on your map reference square. Of course, it is to your tactical advantage to use WD Top Secret cards to restrict the other players' progress. Once a man is on his map reference he cannot be moved by anyone, he cannot be bombed, 'Hodged' or placed in an air raid shelter.
The Object
The object of the game is to get both of your men to their map reference.
The first to do so wins.
