56 cards, investigator, game board and instructions.
Setup
Place the card deck, unshuffled, in the middle of the table. Have paper and a pen ready in case you want to take notes. As soon as you have finished reading the instructions, place the timeline (on the reverse side of this sheet) next to the deck and place the investigator on 8:30.
Gameplay
-
Now take card 1, turn it over and read the text aloud.
When you see this symbol (a number in an arrow) on a card, you immediately take the matching card from the deck and may read it right away. So take card 2 (and then also card 3) immediately and read the text aloud.
-
On card 3 you see several leads. From now on you must always decide on one lead. Cards you have received once, you keep for the entire game – so you can also choose further leads from this card later, if you wish.
Note when choosing leads:
A lead is shown as a text line (for example "Was weiß sie über den Einbruch?" - "What does she know about the break-in?"), with a time frame (for example 8:30-11:30) printed below it, a card number (for example 4) and a duration (for example 15 Min.).
- The card number: take this card from the deck and read it.
- The time frame: you can only choose this lead if the investigator is currently within this time frame.
- The duration: move the investigator that many minutes further along the timeline as indicated.
Further rules:
- You may not choose a lead with which the investigator would move beyond the last space (17:30).
- For leads with a time restriction, only the space on which the investigator is currently standing counts. If the investigator is currently on 10:30, for example, and the lead shows the time frame "8:30-10:30", you may choose this lead (regardless of how long it takes to follow this lead).
-
From now on you are on your own! Always decide, after you have completely dealt with a card, which lead you want to follow next.
-
Whenever the investigator lands on a space like this (a space showing a time, e.g. 09:15, with a card number, e.g. 18) or jumps over it, you immediately take the depicted card and may read it. You may read this card without having to move the investigator. If you receive several cards at the same time, you decide yourselves in which order you want to read them.
End of the Game
The game ends either as soon as the investigator has arrived at the last space (17:30), or you wish to solve the case voluntarily. You receive no bonus for solving the case earlier – so take your time!
Then take card 53. There you will be asked questions about the case and some background information. As soon as you have answered the questions, you can check your answers with the help of the solution. The more questions you can answer correctly, the better!
Enough chatter – after all, you still have an important case to solve! Have lots of fun in Vienna, and find out what happened! Now turn these instructions over. On the reverse you will find an overview of the suspects!
