120 playing cards: 60 for the red team, 60 for the white team.
Before Kick-off
1 Before kick-off: First, you'll need to pick teams: If you have 2, 4, 6 or 8 players, you'll have the same number of players in each team - either 1, 2, 3 or 4. If you have 3, 5 or 7 players, your teams will be uneven.
2 The red team receives the red cards, and the white team receives the white cards.
3 Each team shuffles their cards well and distributes them evenly to their team members. (If one of the teams consists of only one player, that player receives all the team cards for that team.)
4 Each player takes their cards into their hand in a stack. And they are ready to go!
Kick-off
5 Kick-off: On the eldest player's signal, the game begins and everyone simultaneously takes cards from their hand and places them on the table, in a row, three at a time. (If you are playing with 3, 5 or 7 players, see the text box for more information.)
Playing with 3, 5 or 7 Players
- 3 players: The player who is playing alone lays out 4 cards next to each other, and each player on the team of 2 lays out 2 cards each.
- 5 players: Each player on the team of 3 lays out 2 cards each, and each player on the team of 2 lays out 3 cards each.
- 7 players: Each player on the team of 4 lays out 2 cards each, and each player on the team of 3 lays out 3 cards each.
As soon as each player has laid out the correct number of cards, players may take additional cards from the stack in their hands and place these on the top of any of their piles. Additionally, they may instead place a card from one of their piles onto the game pile in the middle of the table, taking control of the ball and continuing the attack.
Rules for Placing Cards
- Only the card on the top of a player's pile may be placed into the middle.
- You may only place cards with one hand, and the other hand is to be used to hold the stack of your cards.
- Once a player has used up all of the cards in his hand, he picks them up from the table, briefly shuffles them, and then continues to play.
Playing the Game
6 The team gains the right to shoot if either of the goal keeper (Alex or Stefan, who both have a "1" on their cards) appear. The first goal keeper card is immediately placed into the middle of the table and forms the game pile. Once this has been done, the ball is in play and anything can happen! Play now becomes faster as each team tries to shoot the ball into the opposition's goal by playing additional cards.
7 There is only ever one pile of cards in the middle of the table. The card on top always shows which player has the ball (in the middle of the card) and which team mates he can pass to (in the corners of the card and in the team colour) or which member(s) of the opposing team can tackle him to gain control of the ball (in the other corner and in the opposing team's colour).
8 The game quickly gains pace; make sure you follow the ball!
9 During the game, try calling the name of the player you are looking for aloud. This way, you'll be able to find that player faster and distract the other team! The game might then sound like this: "Dennis, Dennis", "Mario, Paul, Mario, Paul", "Leon, Luca, Leon, Luca", and so on.
Scoring a Goal
10 Goal! Scoring a goal is the biggest thrill! Each team has a total of 8 goal cards. If a player manages to place a goal card onto the pile, their team scores a goal! Now it's time for a short break to shout with joy.
11 The goal card is laid aside into a place where it is easily visible and stays there until the end of the game. This way, spectators can always see who is winning.
12 The cards in the middle of the table are then sorted into red and white cards and given to the red and white teams, respectively. Each player takes all their cards back into their hand, shuffles them, and prepares for the next attack! Each subsequent play follows the same process: Each player places their cards onto the table, face-up and in a row, before the first goal keeper moves into the center of the table and the team on the offensive attacks until a goal is scored.
End of the Game
13 The final whistle: Once one of the teams has scored 5 goals, the final whistle is blown and that team leaves the field victorious. Congratulations!
If the Ball Goes Out
It may occur that no more cards can be played because the only cards that may be placed are already in the game pile. If both teams agree, the game can then be briefly interrupted while all played cards except the one on the top are redistributed to the teams. Each player then reshuffles his pile and the game continues.
Reading the Cards
- In the middle: The player with the ball.
- In the corners, team members (same colour): The player with the ball can pass to these players.
- In the corners, the opposing team (players of the other colour): They can tackle the player with the ball to gain control of it.
