  • 1 black die

How to Play DRAGON

Choose a Theme

Take a theme card at random. The first player rolls the two numbered dice.

He chooses one of the two themes suggested by the dice.

Example: if he rolls 1 and 6, he may take theme 16 or theme 61.

  • 16: On m'a offert un château (I was given a castle)
  • 61: Je suis un(e) magichien(ne) (I am a magichien(ne), a pun combining magicien (magician) and chien (dog))

If he rolls a double, the other players propose themes they invented, and he chooses the one that inspires him.

If he rolls a double 6, he must necessarily tell: Comment j'ai adopté un dragon! (How I adopted a dragon!)

Tell Your Story

The player/narrator places the five connector dice in front of him, ordered from lightest to darkest, and keeps the white die within reach.

He rolls the yellow die (the lightest connector) and starts his story with the words obtained. Whenever he wants or needs to, he rolls the next connector die and continues the story, using the words shown. During his story he must roll the white die at a moment of his choice, but imperatively before concluding with the fifth and last die.

Tips

At the slightest hesitation: roll the white die!

Short stories are generally the best: about 2 minutes is very good.

Measure Your Success

At the end of his performance, the narrator self-assesses by rolling a numbered die and scores the value shown.

If the other players feel his story deserved better, they may invite him to roll the other numbered die, so that he adds the values of both dice together.

Example: 5 + 3 = 8 points.

This system can prove cruel, but love is cruel and this game is nothing but love!

Next Player

The next player rolls the two numbered dice, chooses a theme, and tells his story using the connector dice. After one complete round, the first game is over.

Did you get the best score at the end of the round? Well done, you have (perhaps) told the best story... And off we go again for a second round before the third!

What Is the Black Die For?

Good question, Kevin! The black die is a counter die that allows a variant: during the narrator's story, the other players can roll it to interrupt him.

The storyteller must then respond and adapt his story.

Use of the black die (placed in the centre of the table) is limited to 3 rolls per story, whether made by one or several of the other players.
