  • 7 island tiles
  • 27 treasure tiles

Aim of the Game

Travel from island to island, look for treasure and score points for it. The player who scores the most points wins.

Setup

Before the first game, carefully punch the components out of the cardboard sheets and insert the figures of Captain de Palma, Pirate Billy and the monkey into their stands.

Lay the 7 island tiles out in a circle. Shuffle the treasure tiles and stack them face up. Place the stack inside the circle of islands.

Place the figures on 3 different islands (any islands). Place the dice beside the board.

Game Turn

The youngest player goes first. Play then passes clockwise. On your turn, roll the 2 dice.

First look at the pirate die

  • Sabre. If 1 sabre is rolled, move Pirate Billy 1 island forward. If 2 sabres are rolled, move him 2 islands forward.
  • Banana. If 1 banana is rolled, move the monkey 1 island forward. If 2 bananas are rolled, move it 2 islands forward.

And now, the captain's die

  • Move Captain de Palma forward by as many islands as the number of pips rolled on the captain's die.

Important: move the figures around the islands clockwise.

What awaits Captain de Palma on the new island?

  • If Captain de Palma ends up on the same island as Pirate Billy or his monkey, you are out of luck. The pirates take your treasure, and the turn passes to the next player. Now the player to your left rolls the dice.

  • If Captain de Palma ends up on an island where no one is present, take the top treasure tile from the stack and place it face up in front of you. Until you finish your turn, there is a risk of losing it.

Now you may do one of two things:

  • End your turn and hide the treasure you have gathered. Turn the treasure tiles gathered during this turn face down. Now the treasure is safe until the end of the game: the pirate and his monkey cannot steal it.

  • Continue your turn, risking the treasure gathered during this turn. Roll the dice again and move Captain de Palma, Pirate Billy and the monkey according to the results. If Captain de Palma again ends up on an island where no one is present, take one more treasure tile from the stack. You then again have a choice: continue your turn, or stop and hide your treasure.

Be careful! If you do not stop in time and the captain ends up on the same island as Pirate Billy or the monkey, all treasure gathered during this turn is lost. Return it to the stack of treasure tiles.

End of the Game

The game ends when the stack of treasure tiles runs out. Players count the treasure on the tiles they gathered during the game. The chest tile scores 1 point, the barrels tile scores 2 points, and the bags tile scores 3 points. The player who scores the most points wins.

If you are playing with very young players, instead of counting points, compare the height of the stacks of treasure tiles gathered during the game. The player whose stack is taller wins.

If there is a tie, the tied player who gathered more chests wins. If it is still a tie, the tied players share the victory.

Game with Older Players

To increase the difficulty of the game, remove 1 island from the game. The other rules remain unchanged.
