The First Time You Play

Detach the spinner from its cardboard sheet and dispose of the waste responsibly.

Components

  • Gameboard
  • 6 plastic pawns
  • 30 cards (6 character cards, 6 action cards, 9 location cards, 9 mystery cards)
  • Hotel key sleeve
  • Clock spinner
  • Notepad
  • 2 dice

Setup

  1. Place all 6 tokens on the Hotel Lobby space in the center of the board (even if there are fewer than 6 players). Select a character pawn and place it at the door you'd like to leave out of.

  2. Separate the 9 mystery cards from the deck, shuffle them, and place them to the side of the board.

  3. Separate the rest of the deck into 3 piles: characters, actions, and locations. Shuffle each deck and place it facedown.

  4. Take the top card from each of the 3 decks and slip it carefully into the hotel key sleeve so no one sees. The key sleeve now contains 3 cards that answer the questions:

    • Who saw Buddy last?
    • Where did they leave him?
    • What were they doing?
  5. Shuffle the remaining character, action, and location cards together and deal them out among the players. It doesn't matter if some players have more cards than others.

Note: If you want to play a 2-player game, see page 6. You will deal the cards out differently at this stage.

  6. Each player should start with a sheet from the notepad and a pen or pencil (not included).

  7. Secretly look at your photo cards and mark the characters, actions, and locations on your sheet. You now know they're not in the key sleeve. Keep your receipt and photos secret!

  8. Start the clock. Designate one player as the Clock Keeper and place the clock hand at 9 AM.

The Clock

Get it together. You can do this.

Your job is to find Buddy in time to make it to the airport and catch your flight. But time is running out.

For every round played (each time a full rotation of players has had a turn), the Clock Keeper moves the clock hand forward 1 hour. If the clock hand reaches 4 PM, each player must write down their bet (who was with Buddy, doing what, and where) on the back of their sheet. Flip your bets over at the same time and check the key sleeve to reveal the answer.

Did you miss your flight, or did you solve the mystery at the last minute?

How to Win

Find Buddy!

  • Move from location to location making bets about who saw Buddy last, what they were doing, and where.
  • Your friends show you photos: clues about Buddy's whereabouts, actions, and who saw him last.
  • Once you think you've solved it, go all in and make your final bet. Then peek inside the hotel key sleeve.
  • If you're right, you solved the mystery and the game is over. You win! If you're wrong, you're out of the game.

How to Play

The player most likely to get lost in Vegas goes first.

On Your Turn:

  1. Roll the dice. Before moving your pawn, did you roll the red magnifying glass? If so, pick up a mystery card, read it out loud, and do what it says:

    • If you roll 2 red magnifying glasses, pick up 2 mystery cards.
    • If a photo card is shown, mark it on your sheet!
    • Put used mystery cards at the bottom of the deck.
  2. Move your pawn the number of squares shown on the dice (the red magnifying glass counts as 1). You can move in any direction, but you may not move diagonally, or through the same square twice in one turn. Each room counts as one space.

    OR

Take the Vegas Tram. There are 2 Trams, one on either side of the gameboard. You can get on at the Jail and off at the Hospital, or on at the Magic Show and off at the Helicopter Landing. To take the Tram, you must start your turn in either the Jail or the Magic Show.

    OR

Stay in the location your character is already in.

  3. Make a bet if you reach a location or are already in a location. Bets help you find the 3 missing photos that will lead you to Buddy.

    • To make a bet, say, "I bet he was with [a character], doing [action] at the [location where you are]."
    • Move the character pawn you're betting to the location as you make the bet.
    • The player to your left secretly shows you one card from your suggestion, if they have one. If they have more than one, they choose which one to show you.
    • If they don't have a card, they say so and the next player secretly shows you a card from your suggestion. And so on.

Tips on How to Mark Your Sheet

In this example, you can see that you were dealt the Oliver Gold and Breakdancing cards at the start. M showed you Jack Violet, D showed you Nathan Jade, and J showed you the Chloe Cobalt and Ava Carmine cards. By making suggestions, you have discovered that Frieda Rosé was the last to see Buddy.

Win

Once you think you know for sure what happened last night, it's time to go ALL IN and make your final bet!

  • You can go all in right after placing a preliminary bet.
  • You do not have to roll the dice again or be in the location you're going to name.
  • You can only go all in on your turn.
  • But you can only go all in once in a game, so you should be feeling pretty confident.

Say, "Buddy was with [character], doing [action] at the [location]." Secretly look inside the hotel key sleeve. Are all 3 photos you named in the key sleeve?

  • Yes! You've won! Congrats! You found Buddy and made your flight.
  • No! Nice try, LOSER! Vegas isn't for everyone. Here's what to do next:
    • Carefully put the cards back in the key sleeve, making sure no one sees them.
    • You're out of the game, but you must still show cards when your friends place bets.
    • The other players continue taking turns until someone finds Buddy.

Running Out of Time

If the clock runs out of time before anyone solves the mystery, all players must go all in and write down their final bet on the back of their sheet. Reveal your bets. Those who are correct make their flight back home. Those who aren't are doomed to sit in airport purgatory until the next flight home. Better luck next time!

The 2-Player Game

You still need to read the regular game rules to play the 2-player game.

Set It Up

The setup begins exactly the same as on page 1. Follow steps 1–5. Then, after you've combined and shuffled the remaining cards, take the top 4 and place them randomly and facedown in any 4 rooms. Then continue the setup as usual.

Make a Bet

If you enter a room with a card in it, secretly look at the card (and mark your sheet), then make your bet as usual.

Everything else is exactly the same as in the original game.

  • If no one has a card, that's fine.
  • Remember, you must be at the location of any suggestion you make. Pawns called to locations are not returned to their original place.

  • Mark your sheet. (The booklet prints this step as "1.", following the bet step's bullets; it is the fourth step of the turn.) What the other players show you, or don't show you, will help you eliminate characters, actions, and locations from your sheet.

    • Make a note of the card you're shown. You know it isn't in the key sleeve.
    • If no one shows you a card, you'll still want to mark your sheet.
  • That's the end of your turn. The player to your left goes next. (The booklet prints this step as "2.".)
