How to Play Combat Cards

Any number of players can play Combat Cards. Deal out the Combat Cards to the players. Each player should hold their Combat Cards in a face down stack. The player who owns the pack takes the top card from their hand and places it face up on the table, and then picks one of the statistics (Weapon Skill, Strength, Speed, Bravery, Toughness or Intelligence). Each of the other players then places their top Combat Card on the table and the card that has the highest value for the characteristic chosen wins the round. All the other players' Combat Cards are 'killed' and put to one side, and the card that won is returned to the bottom of the owning player's stack. The player to the left of the player who went first now takes a turn, as above.

In the case of a draw, all the Combat Cards that can't match the chosen player's characteristic are killed, and the remaining cards are returned to the players' hands. The last player to hold any Combat Cards is the winner of the game. If you want to play a longer and more exciting version of Combat Cards, simply shuffle together two or more packs of Combat Cards at the start of the game.

Bonus Game - Imposter!

This is a game for up to 6 players. Deal out the Combat Cards to the players. Each player should pick up his cards and look at them, but should keep them secret from the other players.

The player who owns the game takes a Combat Card from his hand, and places it face down on the table. As he does so, he must pick one of the characteristics on the card and declare it out loud, but he does not have to tell the truth. For example, he could play a card with a Strength of 6, and declare out loud "Strength 8". The player on his left must now play a card (face down), and must call out the same characteristic with a higher number, or a different characteristic with the same number. Play proceeds clockwise round the table, with each player having to beat or match the last card that was played.

Now we get to the fun bit! As soon as a player has placed a card, any other player can yell out "Imposter!". If the call is correct and the player was lying, the Imposter must take all of the cards on the table. If the call was wrong, the caller must take all the cards. Whoever gets the cards must add them to his hand and start a new round. The winner is the first player to get rid of all of his cards.

To play a longer version of the game, simply shuffle two or more packs of Combat Cards together.

Bonus Game - Battle Lines

This is a game for up to five players. Deal out 6 cards to each player. Each player looks at his cards, and then lays them out in a row on the table, face down. The player may decide in what order the cards are laid down.

Each player flips over the leftmost card of the row. Compare the Weapon Skill characteristics of all the cards and discard any cards that have been killed as you would in the basic game. If there is one overall winner, turn the card face down, but leave it in place. In the case of a draw, all of the cards that are killed are discarded, and the remainder are placed in a face down stack in the centre of the table. Now move onto the second card and repeat the procedure, but this time compare Strength against Strength. Starting with the second card, an overall winner also captures any cards that are face down in the centre of the table, which should be placed under the card that captured them. Repeat this procedure for each card, moving along one characteristic for each card. The winner is the player who has the most face-down cards in front of them at the end of the game.

To add more variety to the game, just shuffle two or more packs of Combat Cards together. If you use more than one pack any number of players may take part.

Bonus Game - Duel to the Death

You will need a normal six-sided dice to play this bonus game.

This is a two player game. It is very similar to the normal rules, but instead of comparing characteristics, the two cards must fight a Duel to the Death.

The Duel to the Death

The card with the highest Speed is the attacker. In the case of a draw, roll a dice to see who is the attacker.

Compare the Weapon Skills of the two cards. If the attacker has the higher Weapon Skill he will hit the opponent if the player rolls a 3 or more on the dice. If the Weapon Skills are equal the attacker will hit on a roll of 4 or more. If the attacker's Weapon Skill is lower he will hit on a roll of 5 or more.

If the attacker hits, compare the attacker's Strength to the opponent's Toughness. If the attacker's score is higher he has killed the opponent and the duel is over. If it is equal or less, he must roll 4 or more on the dice to kill the opponent.

If the opponent survives, he becomes the attacker and may roll to see if he hits, as above. Keep on fighting rounds of combat until one card is killed.

To play a longer version of the game, just shuffle together two or more packs of Combat Cards.

Bonus Game - All or Nothing!

This is a game for one player. Shuffle the cards and deal them out, face down, into two equal stacks. Take one of the stacks and leave the other stack face down on the table.

Take the top Combat Card from your hand and place it face up on the table, and then pick one of the characteristics, just like you would in the normal game. Flip over the top Combat Card from the other deck, and work out which card has been killed using the normal rules. In the case of a draw, return the cards to the bottom of each deck. Repeat this procedure until you have won or lost the game. Note that you always go first when playing All or Nothing!

You win the game if you kill all of the cards in the other deck. If just one of your cards is killed, you lose the game. If you want to play a longer version of the game, try shuffling two or more different packs of Combat Cards together. Be warned, the more cards you use, the more difficult it will be to win!

Bonus Game - Deadly Doubles

This is a game for any number of players. You will need two packs of the same set of cards (for example, two sets of Warriors or two sets of Monsters). Shuffle the two packs together - including the Bonus Rules cards - and then deal them out, face down, so that you have seven rows of cards with 10 cards in each row. You will be able to spot the Bonus Rules cards because they have a different back to the other cards - take these two cards and put them to one side.

The player to the left of the dealer takes the first turn and may flip over any two cards, one after the other so that all the players can see them. If both the cards are the same, the player may keep the cards and may take another turn. If they are different, the player must turn them face down and play proceeds to the next player. Play continues in this way until there are no cards left on the table. Then each player counts up the number of doubles they have collected, and the player with the most wins the game.

Bonus Game - Snivlin' Snotling

This is a game for any number of players. You will need two packs of the same set of cards (for example, two sets of Dwarfs or two sets of Chaos) and several coins. All the players must sit round in a circle. Shuffle the two packs together and deal 4 cards to each player. The players may look at their cards, but don't show them to the other players. The remaining cards are placed face down beside the dealer. The dealer should place one coin for each of the other players in the centre of the circle (but not for himself).

The object of the game is to get two pairs of identical cards. To do this, the dealer takes a card from the deck, looks at it and then hands any card from his hand to the player on his left. The player on the dealer's left looks at the card he has been given, and must then hand any card to the player on his left, and so on round the circle of players. The player to the right of the dealer doesn't pass a card, but places a card face-up beside the deck. Then the dealer takes another card from the deck and play continues as above. As soon as a player has 2 pairs of cards they can grab a coin, and then all the other players must try to grab a coin as well (even if they don't have 2 pairs). The player who doesn't manage to grab a coin is out of the game - he's a Snivlin' Snotling and the other players must shout this at him to make sure he knows. Then a new round is started with the remaining players, and with 1 less coin in the centre. The winner is the last player left in the game.
